Happy Monday, October 5, 2026 from Chalfont Pharmacy!!!

Today..... How Soon After the COVID Vaccine Do You Build Immunity, and How Long Does Immunity Last?

1. COVID vaccines begin to work right away, but can take a couple of weeks to build immunity against the virus if you’ve never had a COVID infection or vaccine before. It may take a couple weeks for them to build full protection. This is true for all COVID vaccines — whether it’s your first vaccine or a booster.

2. If you’ve already had a COVID infection or a previous vaccine, you could reach immunity sooner — often within 10 days — after getting an updated vaccine. Research suggests that people with a history of COVID infection or vaccination reach peak antibody titers sooner compared to those without. As an added boost, they tend to have three times the amount of antibodies as people with no prior immunity.

3. Many factors, including age and health conditions, affect how quickly you build immunity after vaccination, as well as the strength of that immunity.

Happy Thursday, October 1, 2026 from Chalfont Pharmacy.

Let's talk about THE 7 METFORMIN TO DO'S today...

Metformin is used to treat Type 2 diabetes. It helps the body use insulin better and decreases the amount of sugar the liver makes. Managing diabetes with metformin includes avoiding certain foods and eating other foods.

1. FOODS TO AVOID
- Candy, Desserts, Condiments and Sweet treats and Drinks
- High-sugar fruits: Mangoes, Grapes, Bananas, Pineapple, Watermelon
- Processed/packaged foods: White bread, White rice, Pasta, Chips, Sugary cereals
- High-fat foods: Cheese, Butter, Bacon, Sausages, Beef ribs, Pork ribs
- Dairy with added sugars: Flavored yogurts, Sweetened milk, Ice cream
- Big High-carb meals: French fries, Cakes, Cookies, Soda, Sweetened tea
- Alcohol
2. FOODS TO EAT
- Lean proteins: chicken, turkey, fish, tofu, and beans
- Nonstarchy vegetables: Broccoli, spinach, carrots, and bell peppers
- Whole grains: oats, quinoa, brown rice, and whole-wheat bread
- Low-sugar fruit: berries, apples, and citrus fruits
- Nuts and seeds: almonds, walnuts, chia seeds, or flaxseeds
- Plain Greek yogurt and cottage cheese
- Healthy fats: avocados, olive oil, and salmon
- Legumes: Lentils, chickpeas, and black beans
- Leafy greens: Kale, spinach, and Swiss chard
- Water
3. IF YOU EAT SOMETHING YOU SHOULDN'T
- Drink water and go for a walk
4. CONTACT YOUR DIABETES CARE TEAM IF
- Extreme thirst, Frequent urination, Nausea, Vomiting, Weakness, Confusion, OR Prolonged blood sugar levels greater than 250 mg/dL
5. OTHER MEDICATION INTERACTIONS
- Always talk with your diabetes care team about all the medications you’re taking. Some Prescription, OTC Medications and supplements impact effectiveness or increase side effects: Antibiotics, Blood pressure medications, Cholesterol medications, Diabetes medications, Steroids, Seizure medications
6. KIDNEY HEALTH
- Your kidneys eliminate metformin and when they don't work well, it builds up in the body and increases side effects. A healthcare professional will track your kidney function regularly while you’re taking metformin. Your Chalfont Pharmacy team will also raise concerns as appropriate and necessary.
7. CONTRAST DYE
- Contrast Sye is administered in some imaging studies (CT scans or MRIs) to provide better images, but it can lead to kidney failure in people at high risk. To reduce the risk of kidney damage, your healthcare team may direct you to stop taking metformin for a short time after having a test with contrast. Only do so when directed by your healthcare team.

Happy Monday, August 24, 2026 from Chalfon Pharmacy.

Today... 8 MEDICATIONS THAT CAN CAUSE HYPOTHYROIDISM

- Certain medications can cause the thyroid gland to become less active than it should be. This is called drug-induced hypothyroidism.

- A few different medications can cause drug-induced hypothyroidism. Examples include amiodarone (Pacerone), lithium (Lithobid), and some cancer medications.

- If you take these medications, your healthcare team may want to monitor your blood work. This is to see if your thyroid is affected. Tell them if you notice symptoms such as fatigue, increased sensitivity to cold, or weight gain.

- You may need to keep taking a medication that’s causing drug-induced hypothyroidism. In this case, you may be prescribed a medication such as levothyroxine (Synthroid) to replace the missing hormones.

- Healthcare professionals call it “drug-induced hypothyroidism.” Simply put, it’s what happens when a medication you’re taking causes your thyroid gland to be less active than it should be. Some medications directly affect your thyroid hormones. Others may affect the thyroid gland itself.

Our team is glad to discuss this and assist you with thison a more personal level.

đź’Š STREAMLINE AND ORGANIZE DAILY VITAMINS

A classroom exposure to new peers also means exposure to new germs. A balanced diet is always the baseline for health, but pediatric supplements like Vitamin D, Vitamin C, or a general multivitamin can fill nutritional gaps and support immune defense.

- CHOOSE THE RIGHT PILL ORGANIZER: Invest in a weekly, child-safe AM/PM pill planner. Visual, color-coded compartments allow children to see exactly what they need to take each day, turning a chore into an interactive habit.
- ANCHOR SUPPLEMENTS TO EXISTING HABITS: The easiest way to remember daily vitamins is to tie them to a step that already happens every single morning, such as placing the organizer right next to their breakfast plate or their toothbrush.
- STORE SAFELY AND OUT OF REACH: Many children's supplements look and taste like candy. Always store vitamin bottles and organizers on a high shelf or inside a secured cabinet to prevent accidental overconsumption.
- CONSULT OUR PHARMACY TEAM FIRST: Before introducing any new supplement or gummy to your child's routine, speak with a pharmacist. We will help you verify proper age-based dosages, check for interactions with existing prescriptions, and recommend high-quality, third-party-tested brands.

The Chalfont Pharmacy Team is always happy and appreciative for opportunities to assist.
