“The average nurse at the bedside today has two years of experience. It used to be fifteen.” Our CNO, Angel Bozard, MSN , RN , CENP, CAVRN joined Rosa Hart, RN on Nurse Rosa’s INsights to talk about what that means for patients and how virtual nursing can help bring experience back to the bedside.

Thank you, Rosa Hart, for a thoughtful conversation and for giving nurses a platform to talk honestly about where the profession is headed.

What changes when patients get more time with a nurse?
Fewer CLABSI, CAUTI, and HAPI. A second set of experienced clinical eyes catches what gets missed during a busy shift.

→ 33% average increase in patient throughput
→ 42% average lift in HCAHPS scores, driven largely by nursing communication
→ Fewer readmissions, because discharge teaching sticks

Bedside nurses are caring for more patients than ever. Virtual nursing adds experienced support to the team they already have, so there’s more room for proactive care and the conversations that build trust.

Build it yourself, or move fast with a partner? Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center needed virtual observers fast. They partnered with VirtuAlly and AvaSure to stand up coverage quickly and make it sustainable.

What happened next: rapid expansion, measurable results, and lessons on what it actually takes to scale virtual care.

$150K per unit, per year. That’s the average annual savings health systems see when they just replace 1:1 sitters with telesitting. And cost is only part of the story. Falls, elopement, device dislodgement, staff injury. Every hospital fights these daily, and most are still relying on in-room sitters. That model is expensive, inconsistent, and pulls staff away from the bedside.

Telesitting changes the math:
→ Continuous observation by trained professionals with nurse leader oversight, backed by fully staffed command centers
→ 120 minutes returned per shift to bedside nurses
→ Up to 90% reduction in 1:1 sitter utilization

What surprises most health systems is what happens next. The workflows, the trust, the clinical integration built through telesitting make expanding into virtual nursing and telemetry monitoring a much shorter leap.

For some organizations it’s the entry point. For others it’s the missing piece in a program already underway. Either way, the impact shows up fast, on the floor and in the budget.

What works for one 200-bed hospital needs to work for a 12-hospital system. VirtuAlly’s model scales because every site runs on the same clinical infrastructure: shared protocols, coverage bedside teams trust, and adoption support built around existing workflows. You can start with one unit. Prove it out, then expand. Already built something on your own? We’ll work with what you have, whether that means adding coverage or running the whole operation so your team can focus elsewhere. One deployment or twenty. The model holds.
