Some moments stay with a family forever.

For one mom, she had hoped and prayed for the day she would hear her child call her “Mommy” and say “I love you.”

Recently, she heard both.

These weren’t just new words. They were moments of connection, love, and hope that she had been waiting for, moments she will likely carry with her for the rest of her life.

Progress like this takes a village. Therapists, clinicians, technicians, support staff, leaders, and families all working together, believing in what a learner can achieve, and celebrating every step forward.

Today, we’re celebrating this learner, his family, and the team that helped make these unforgettable moments possible.

Progress worth celebrating at our Raleigh center. 💙
One of our Raleigh learners has been making meaningful strides in waiting, transitions, learning readiness, and independence. Over time, he has become more successful with visual schedules, making choices throughout his day, and navigating routines with less support.
He’s also building stronger attending and matching skills and showing greater confidence as he moves through activities.
One of the most exciting changes has been how much more successfully he is navigating frustration. Behaviors that were once happening frequently have decreased significantly as his communication, coping, and independence have grown.
We’re so proud of the progress he continues to make and all the skills he’s building for the future.

Progress doesn’t always look like one big breakthrough.

Sometimes it looks like a learner using a new word instead of becoming frustrated.

Sometimes it’s sitting with peers, trying a new food, getting through a routine with less support, or independently asking for help.

Real progress can change an entire family’s future.

One learner came to Highlights Healthcare with no functional way to communicate his needs and often relied on challenging behaviors to be understood. Over time, his communication grew, and with it came more safety, more independence, and more connection at home.

Today, he can use words to request what he wants, greet his mom, say the names of his siblings, and move through daily routines with greater confidence and flexibility. His family is not just seeing progress in therapy they’re experiencing meaningful change in everyday life.

Every step forward can change life at home, too.
One of our learners has made tremendous progress since beginning services. When he started, communication was difficult, and not being able to express what he needed could sometimes lead to more significant behaviors.

Today, his voice is growing and so is his independence.
He's communicating more with his family, taking turns, greeting others and responding to greetings. He's started eating at the center, is making great progress with wearing underwear and potty training, and continues to build skills that make everyday life a little easier.

His mom has seen the difference at home, too. Being able to communicate his needs more effectively has helped reduce challenging moments and given him greater independence; something especially meaningful for a growing family.
This is why the work matters.

Behind progress like this are BCBAs who develop thoughtful treatment plans, support their teams, celebrate the small victories, and keep working toward the big ones.
