We start forming our worth story long before we even realize weâre writing one.
As kids, weâre learning more than how to tie our shoes, make friends, or get good grades. Weâre also learning who we are.
We notice the words people use, the attention we receive, the expectations placed on us, and how people respond to us. And without even realizing it, we start making meaning out of those experiences.
Iâm the responsible one.
Iâm the funny one.
Iâm the difficult one.
Iâm the smart one.
Iâm the one who doesnât need much.
Iâm the one who takes care of everyone.
Some of these things might be true about us. But somewhere along the way, a description can turn into an expectation. And an expectation can turn into a belief about who we have to be to matter, belong, or be loved.
Thatâs where our worth story begins to take shape.
The good news? Just because a story started early doesnât mean it has to define us forever. đ€
