Join us this Sunday from 10am-12pm for a morning exploring the beautiful fields and meadows of , a certified organic hilltop herb farm. Attendees will begin by learning how the farm’s landscape is managed to encourage a healthy diversity of wild herbs. Free Verse Farm’s co-owners, Misha & Taylor, will share techniques for regenerative and ethical wildcrafting of herbs commonly found in Vermont and discuss traditional uses for these wild herbs, along with ways to dry and preserve them for year-round use in remedies such as tea blends, infused oils, and tinctures. There will also be opportunities for some hands-on harvesting. Attendees are encouraged to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy on the farm once the workshop concludes, and are also welcome to visit the on their way out, located just down the road in the center of Chelsea. Join us on Sunday for this on-farm event focusing on one of our favorite topics: WILDCRAFTING

Come join us on the farm this Sunday, July 12th, from 10 am-12 pm, to explore our beautiful fields and meadows while learning how to steward land for wild herb production and harvest wild-growing herbs in a sustainable and compassionate way.

We will spend the morning exploring the beautiful, hilltop fields and meadows of our farm, a certified organic herb farm that has been growing and wildharvesting herbs since 2012.

Happy Spring from Vermont, Where All the Little Creatures (Us Included!) Have Come Out to Play!

As soon as March hits, the energy of spring begins rising in the earth and within our bodies. The feeling is unmistakable–a desire to renew, to grow, to try again at the task of blooming.

We’ve had a handful of nice rains so far this spring, so we are crossing all of our fingers and toes that we do not have a drought season this year, nor a rainy, flooding season! May the rains come gently, at night, once a week—amen!

These days, as we watch the crocuses and daffodils pop up around our farm and town, we are busy getting our fingernails dirty again with soil blocking and planting seeds. Misha has also been mowing our hillsides for weeks now, clearing away slopes of blackberries with our trusty walk-behind tractor.

We are expanding our growing areas this year, and just plowed and amended plots in the area we’ve named the “Topfield,” which is even higher on the hill than the “Farfield!” We’re excited to have a full season with our grant-funded harvester (which we’ve named Ronald Johnald), enabling us to harvest leafy herbs neatly and evenly in no time!

Last fall, we planted our fruit orchard, and we’ll be adding more varieties of apples, as well as berries and rhubarb, this spring. We also hope to finally dig a pond this year, which will provide valuable water for our crops, as well as the cows that spend their summer on our hillsides.

On the apothecary side, we have been working on some new products (some for many years!) that have finally come to fruition this spring, including a new oxymel, a revamped tea blend, and two new powder blends for making the most delicious herbal beverages at home! Stay tuned!

We hope you are weathering the sometimes-rocky transition into the outdoor season with grace, and enjoying all the signs of renewal that this time of year offers.

We've restocked some bulk herbs and also made some new ones available!

THYME - We neatly harvest this beautiful culinary herb with our clippers until it looks like a mouse's boxwood hedge. The scent fills the air, fills the baskets, fills the dryer, and it's hard not to start dreaming up recipes for dinner that night that include fresh thyme!

PASSIONFLOWER - Into the high tunnel we go to cut and unwind this abundant vine from its trellis. We harvest passionflower twice per season while it is in flower, and constantly stop to marvel at the mind-boggling beauty of the blossoms. We've even grown handfuls of passionFRUITS the past few years!

LADY'S MANTLE - We will never forget the image of Rosemary Gladstar drinking morning dew from the leaf of this beautiful plant during a course with her at Sage Mountain. Take advantage of this NEW! herbal offering from our farm, as organic Lady's Mantle is very hard to source!

ARNICA - This beautiful plant is famous for its muscle-soothing qualities. We harvest it relatively early in the season, plucking the small, dandelion-like blooms into our baskets, often working on our knees due to the low-growing nature of this beautiful plant. Please note that arnica is not meant for internal use!
