Did you know your body creates a wound approximately the size of a dinner plate after you give birth? 🤯
We talk so much about the baby after birth that we sometimes forget what your body has just been through.
When your baby is born, the placenta separates from the uterine wall, leaving behind a wound inside your uterus. Your body immediately begins the incredible process of healing it.
This is one reason postpartum bleeding, or lochia, is expected after birth. In the beginning, it can be heavier and gradually changes in color and amount as your uterus heals and returns toward its pre-pregnancy size.
And while bleeding is normal, knowing what’s not normal is important. If you’re experiencing very heavy bleeding, large clots, dizziness, faintness, a racing heartbeat, or simply feel like something isn’t right, contact your healthcare provider.
Your postpartum body isn’t “just recovering.”
It is actively healing. 🤍
You grew a human.
You gave birth.
Your placenta separated.
Your uterus is healing from the inside out.
And you’re adjusting to an entirely new chapter.
You deserve rest, nourishment, education, and support while your body does all of this work.
This is why postpartum care matters. 🤍
