What you see: shelves stocked with food. What we see: comfort, compassion, and one less worry for families so they can stay focused on what matters most: being by their child's side.

A heartfelt thank you to Esther's Friends for donating a year’s worth of food to our Inpatient Unit pantry, which is part of La Rabida’s All Access Food Pantries, and helping us support families when they need it most.

“Esther Viola Frey lived for just two short years, but the way she connected with people continues to shape everything we do," says Esther's mom, Monica Frey. "This partnership with La Rabida allows us to carry Esther’s legacy forward—by making sure families feel cared for during some of their hardest days.”

Trick or treat!🎃 La Rabida patients and families got to choose their perfect Halloween costumes. From superheroes to storybook characters, our patients showed their excitement as they chose a costume that made them smile.

Thanks to Spirit Halloween and its Spirit of Children program for supporting our patients' imagination and creativity as they get ready for Halloween festivities!

La Rabida is thrilled to welcome Dr. Andrew Van Bergen, a nationally recognized pediatric cardiologist, researcher, and healthcare leader, as our new Chief Medical Officer.

Dr. Van Bergen's extensive experience leading clinical trials, advancing quality improvement, and championing better outcomes for children will help strengthen our mission and expand our impact on families near and far.

“It is truly an honor and a pleasure to join the team at La Rabida and help carry forward the mission established more than 130 years ago,” says Dr. Van Bergen. “I look forward to partnering with our dedicated team and the families we serve to advance the exceptional interdisciplinary care that defines La Rabida. Together, we will continue to improve the quality of care delivered while optimizing each patient's quality of life, both during their time at La Rabida and throughout their lifelong healthcare journey.”

Joy is part of the healing journey at La Rabida, & on Tuesday, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey helped us bring more smiles to our halls.

From the outpatient clinic to the inpatient unit, patients watched the circus acrobats perform cool tricks by juggling and jumping rope, and visited with a special robotic dog, Bailey, for a morning of unforgettable moments! 🎪🎉

We love hearing memories from our past Gala honorees! These stories remind us how so many generous people, like Cheryl Procter-Rogers, have helped shape La Rabida’s legacy of care.

We’re grateful for this lasting support of our children and families. We can’t wait to share more stories at this year’s gala. larabida.org/gala

La Rabida is proud to step up for su***de prevention.

In Illinois, su***de is the third leading cause of death for people between the ages of 15–34. On Saturday, our Behavioral Health team joined more than 6,000 advocates at the American Foundation for Su***de Prevention AFSP Illinois Chapter Out of the Darkness Chicagoland Walk to raise awareness and support our community.

We were grateful to make meaningful connections and share moments of hope, remembrance, and resilience.

If you or someone you know is in crisis, please call or text the Su***de and Crisis Lifeline at 988 or text TALK to 741741 (Crisis Text Line).

Responding with care. Supporting with compassion. That's the message these advocates are taking with them as they continue to help communities heal after acts of violence.

La Rabida Chicago Child Trauma Center (CCTC) led a trauma-informed care symposium, training local Community Violence Intervention (CVI) groups who provide crisis response in the aftermath of gun violence.

Theresa V., clinical director of the CCTC, led the program through an interactive approach, teaching CVI specialists healing, resilience, and recovery strategies.

“We are grateful to share what we have learned clinically as therapists treating complex trauma in the community,” says Theresa. “We are fortunate to bring so many CVI professionals together to apply that knowledge to create larger systemic changes that enhance effective community violence intervention.”

Thank you to our sponsoring partner, Cook County Government Justice Advisory Council, for making this event possible.
