✨ASTEYA✨ Non-Covetousness ~ Cultivating Abundance

Yoga Sutra 2.37
By abiding in freedom from the desire for others’ possessions, that which is precious is revealed, and all that is beneficial is freely given.

Asteya, the yama of non-covetousness, beckons us to embrace a realm of plenty and authenticity, acknowledging that the treasures we seek reside within. And without, easing the thirst for unearned bounty. Lessening our desire to take what is not rightfully ours invites us to open our hearts to the abundance that already surrounds us. By embracing this principle, we release the burden of coveting what is desired and instead find fulfillment in what we have already. Embracing this inherent abundance, Patanjali tells us in Sutra 2.37, all prosperity (sarva ratna) comes (upasthanam). Embracing asteya allows us to quench our thirst for authenticity and cultivate a sense of abundance that flows from a place of integrity and respect.

🍂🍁As we head into the cooler months of the year (at least here in Chicago!), the Vata Dosha can become out of balance. Vata is a dry, cool, and light Dosha.🍂🍁

Here are a few tips to find more Ayurvedic balance in your body this fall:

Prioritize rest - getting adequate sleep and carving out more time to slow down and meditate can be beneficial in reducing the light, sometimes flighty, Vata energy.
Choose warm and cooked foods over cold and raw options - think less salads, more sauteed veggie bowls - this can help you feel grounded and warmed from the inside out!
Opt for warmer beverages too! - explore the many varieties of tea out there, or even sip on warm, rich broth on those extra chilly days.
Spice it up - move your cinnamon, ginger, and black pepper to the front of your spice rack and throw in a few dashes whenever possible.

Yoga studios are sacred spaces where we come to relax, unwind, and connect with our bodies and minds. Proper yoga studio etiquette is essential to ensure a peaceful and enjoyable experience for everyone.

Here are some tips to keep in mind:
Arrive on time: It's important to arrive on time to avoid disrupting the class. If you're running late, wait until the opening meditation is over before entering the studio.
Respect the space: Yoga studios are peaceful places, so please keep your voice down and refrain from using your phone. Also, remove your shoes before entering the studio and make sure to place them neatly in the designated area.
Communicate with the teacher: If you have any injuries or health concerns, make sure to let the teacher know before the class begins. They will be able to provide modifications or adjustments to ensure that you have a safe and enjoyable practice.
Be mindful of personal hygiene: Yoga involves a lot of stretching and movement, so it's important to come to class clean and fresh. Also, avoid wearing strong perfumes or colognes that may bother others.
Clean up after yourself: After class, make sure to wipe down your mat with the provided cleaning supplies and put away any props or blankets that you used. By following these simple guidelines, you can help create a peaceful and respectful environment in the yoga studio, allowing everyone to enjoy the many benefits of this ancient practice.

🧘‍♀️ Join Samantha on Sunday October 18th at 1pm for a Pelvic Floor Workshop! 🧘‍♀️

As you move throughout the day, do you have discomfort in your back, hip, or groin? Do you find yourself constantly searching for a restroom or fear you may not make it in time? All of these concerns can link back to your pelvic floor. Historically, pelvises and the pelvic floor are an overlooked area of the human body, yet the pelvis provides the foundation for a body’s movement and stability. If you are experiencing the symptoms listed above or are curious about how your pelvis supports you and your body, this workshop is for you.

This event offers a safe space to learn about your pelvis and explore your connection with your pelvic floor. It will provide a general, accessible, and introductory approach to pelvic floor anatomy and pelvic floor conditions. It will also show students how to foster a deeper connection with their pelvis by exploring breathing techniques and therapeutic yoga poses that will support their pelvic floor.

For yoga students who are curious about their pelvic floor and for students who may be experiencing pelvic floor dysfunction. This event is meant to provide general knowledge regarding the pelvic floor and general yoga poses that provide support for pelvic muscles. It is not meant to diagnose or replace medical advice or support. While this workshop will focus on pelvises with a uterus, all students are welcome to attend.

✨ BLISS ✨

Yoga Sutra 4.30
Tataḥ kleśa karma nivr̥ttiḥ
Thereafter, all suffering and karma ceases.

Last month, we looked at a state of samadhi Patanjali called dharmameghah or “showering of righteousness” in Yoga Sutra 4.29.

This post we’ll look at Sutras 4.30 and 4.31, since they are quite compact and flow into one another nicely. Yoga Sutra 4.30 explains after one achieves dharmameghah samadhi, all suffering and karma ceases. Makunda Stiles calls it a “cessation of obstacles and karmic patterns.” (54)
