🄦🧠 Can what you eat affect how you feel?

Our gut and brain are constantly communicating, and research continues to explore the connection between nutrition, gut health, mood, and emotional well-being.

Eating a variety of nutrient-rich foods can be one way to support your overall health, but there’s no ā€œperfectā€ diet, and food isn’t a cure-all.

For Darier’s Warriors, caring for your whole self matters. That can mean nourishing your body, getting enough rest, managing stress, connecting with your community, and asking for support when you need it.

Your well-being is about more than your skin.

Save this post as a gentle reminder to take care of yourself from the inside out.

🧬 DARIER’S DISEASE TERM BREAKDOWN: GENETIC MUTATION

You may have heard that Darier’s Disease is caused by a genetic mutation, but what does that actually mean?

A genetic mutation is simply a change in DNA. In Darier’s Disease, disease-causing changes in the ATP2A2 gene can affect the SERCA2 protein, which plays an important role in regulating calcium inside cells.

And no, Darier’s isn't something you can catch. It’s a genetic condition, meaning the underlying genetic change can be inherited or, in some cases, occur as a new change.

Swipe through to break down the science behind one of the key pieces of Darier’s Disease. 🧬

Today is World Mental Health Day. 🧠 šŸŒ·šŸ’™

Living with Darier’s Disease can affect so much more than your skin. The physical symptoms, uncertainty, flare-ups, and daily challenges can all take an emotional toll.

Your mental health deserves care, support, and attention, too.
If today feels difficult, remember that you don’t have to navigate it alone. Reach out to someone you trust, give yourself permission to rest, or talk with a mental health professional if you need support.

And to every Darier’s Warrior: your feelings are valid, your experience matters, and you are more than your skin.

Today, let’s check in on ourselves, and on each other.

šŸ§“šŸ’™ Genevieve’s skincare routine!

Ever wonder what products Genevieve uses to care for her skin each day? She’s giving us a quick look at what’s currently in her routine!

From her daily face wash and moisturizer to shea butter, petroleum jelly, and a new emollient cream she’s experimenting with on her legs, these are some of the products she’s currently using.

🫧 A few favorites:
• Salcura Antiac Daily Face Wash — morning & night
• Salcura Bioskin Zeoderm — face & neck
• Cetaphil — as needed
• Shea butter — for extra-dry areas
• Petroleum jelly — a go-to favorite
• Dexeryl Emollient Cream — currently testing on her legs

Remember, everyone’s skin is different, especially when living with Darier’s. What works for one person may not work for another.

Thanks for sharing your routine with us, Genevieve!

This post shares Genevieve’s personal skincare routine and is not medical advice or a product recommendation. Always talk with your dermatologist or healthcare provider about what’s right for your skin.

šŸ§ šŸ’š Can what you eat support your mood?

Some foods contain tryptophan, an essential amino acid your body uses to make serotonin, a chemical messenger involved in mood, sleep, digestion, and appetite.

From eggs and salmon to tofu, nuts, and seeds, adding a variety of nutrient-rich foods to your meals can be one small part of supporting your overall well-being.

But remember: food isn't a magic fix. Mental health is complex, and nutrition is just one piece of the puzzle.

For Darier’s Warriors, taking care of your whole self matters: body, mind, and skin. šŸ„—

šŸ‚ MYTH vs. FACT: Cooler weather means Darier’s Disease can’t flare.

While some people with Darier’s Disease may feel better once the heat and humidity of summer fade, cooler weather doesn’t automatically mean flare-free skin.

Changes in temperature, dry air, sweating from layers, friction, and changes in your daily routine can all affect your skin differently.

The biggest takeaway? There’s no one-size-fits-all Darier’s season.

Your triggers are personal, and getting to know how your skin responds to seasonal changes can help you better understand your own Darier’s journey.

What changes do you notice in your skin when the seasons change? šŸ

We’re still thinking about Walk for Darier’s 2026. šŸ’™

What a day. What a community. What a reminder of just how powerful it is when Darier’s Warriors, families, friends, researchers, and supporters come together for one shared mission. 🫶

From Chicago to communities around the world, every step helped raise awareness, build connection, and support the fight for better treatments and, ultimately, a cure for Darier disease.

We’re so grateful to everyone who walked, donated, shared, volunteered, cheered us on, or supported from afar. You made Walk for Darier’s 2026 unforgettable.

And this may be the end of this year’s walk, but it’s certainly not the end of what we’re building together. šŸ’™

Thank you for walking with us. Until next time.

šŸ‚ As the seasons change, so does your skin. For those living with Darier’s Disease and other rare skin conditions, fall can be especially challenging with cooler air and indoor heating. Here are some simple ways to protect your skin this season:

2ļøāƒ£ Barrier first – Choose ointments or creams rich in ceramides, glycerin, or hyaluronic acid to help protect and strengthen your skin barrier.
3ļøāƒ£ Humidify your space – Keep a humidifier running indoors to prevent dryness from heating systems.
4ļøāƒ£ Dress smart – Opt for soft, breathable fabrics like cotton instead of wool or synthetics that can irritate sensitive skin.
5ļøāƒ£ Lukewarm showers – Skip the hot water! Warm (not hot) showers are gentler and won’t strip your skin’s natural oils.
6ļøāƒ£ SPF year-round – UV rays don’t take a break in the fall, and sunscreen can help protect against flare-ups.
7ļøāƒ£ Moisturize often – Reapply cream or ointment throughout the day, especially on hands, elbows, and sensitive areas.
8ļøāƒ£ Check in with your care team – Seasonal changes can affect flare-ups, so it’s a good time to review your skincare plan with your doctor.

šŸ’™ Remember, small changes can make a big difference in how your skin feels this season.
