This Friday’s word: stacked flap 🥞

A reconstructive technique in which two or more free tissue components are combined and arranged together to provide greater volume or surface area for a single defect.

Think of it as:
when one flap isn’t enough — stack it up.

Stacked flaps are particularly useful when a single donor site cannot provide sufficient tissue volume, allowing surgeons to maximize available tissue while tailoring the reconstruction to the defect.

More tissue. More volume. One reconstruction.

This Friday’s word: flap inset 🧩

Flap inset is the surgical step where a flap is carefully positioned, shaped, and secured into the defect to restore coverage, contour, and function.

Think of it as:
where reconstruction becomes form.

In reconstructive microsurgery, successful inset is more than simply filling a defect. Proper orientation, tension-free positioning, pedicle protection, and thoughtful contouring can be just as important as the flap itself.

Because a successful flap should not only survive — it should fit.
