This two-session cover-up started with a solid black tribal design and ended with a gnarled Bristlecone Pine Tree.
Gifford used layers of opaque greys to push and pull the existing black value, working it into the texture of the tree instead of simply trying to cover it. The final session also shows how the healed section blends into the new design, creating a cover-up where the original piece becomes almost impossible to pick out.
Even old, solid black tattoos can sometimes be transformed with the right plan, design, and experience. 🌲
