The to-do list that suddenly feels impossible.

The exhaustion sleep doesn't touch. The guitar, the book, the thing you used to love, sitting untouched. Holding it together all day in public, then falling apart once you're alone.

And through all of it, one sentence on repeat. I'm fine.

If you've been saying it for a very long time, it might be worth listening to. Not because something is wrong with you. Your brain isn't broken. It's been trying to talk to you in the only ways it knows how.

These signs can have many causes, and you don't have to sort out which one is yours by yourself. That's what therapy is for: a place to slow down, get curious, and understand what your brain has been saying.

When you're ready, we're here. Link in bio.

Today is National Coming Out Day.

And we want to say something to everyone who is out, not out, somewhere in between, or still figuring out what any of this means for them.

Coming out is not a single moment. It's not a deadline. It's not something you owe anyone, not your family, not your community, not the internet. Some people come out once. Some people come out every day in rooms that weren't built with them in mind. Some people never come out publicly and live fully and wholly as themselves anyway.

All of it is valid. All of it counts.

This day also tends to center one version of the story, the dramatic reveal, the big conversation, the before and after. But so much of this work is quieter than that. It's the person who has known who they are since childhood and is still deciding who gets to know it too. It's the person who came out once, years ago, and now has to decide whether to do it again with every new job, every new doctor, every new room. It's the person who isn't sure yet and doesn't owe anyone a timeline for figuring that out.

What we know after ten years of this work is that the most important thing to come out isn't the one you do for other people. It's the one you do for yourself. The quiet internal moment where you stop arguing with who you are and start getting curious about what it means to live as that person.

That's the work. And it's some of the most meaningful work we get to do.

At Gemstone, LGBTQIA2S+ affirming therapy isn't a checkbox. It's how we show up, in how we ask questions, in who we hire, in what we never ask you to explain before we can understand you. It's in not assuming your family will be your safest relationship, and not assuming they won't be, either. It's in making room for the version of you that's still figuring it out, right alongside the version that's known for years.

You deserve to be you. Without apology. Without having to translate yourself first.
We're here whenever you're ready.

"I’m fine" is often just the phrase we use when we’ve adapted to living in survival mode.

This World Mental Health Day, we’re honoring the truth that mental health isn't just about surviving a crisis, it’s about having space to thrive beyond it.

When you’re high-functioning, people mistake your resilience for ease. They assume that because you’re meeting every deadline, holding space for everyone else, and keeping the pieces together, you aren't struggling.

But high performance isn't proof of peace, it’s often just a very sophisticated defense mechanism.

You don't need to hit rock bottom to qualify for care. You don't need a total collapse to earn rest. Your internal experience matters just as much as your external output.

If you’re tired of performing okayness, our doors are open. Save this as a reminder for when the pressure builds, or tap the link in our bio to learn about our private, trauma-informed therapy services.

We told you not to open it.

But since you did, we hope it landed somewhere it needed to.

Healing is one of the most misrepresented words in wellness. It gets packaged as a glow-up. A transformation with a before and after and a tidy resolution.

But healing can feel really ugly. It can feel bloody and scabby, angry and mean.

Healing can feel like battle. Like a silent, violent war cry that rattles your insides day and night. Sometimes, healing can hurt more than the wound ever did.

There is an implicit pressure to heal gracefully, too. With gratitude. With yoga, pretty cries, and w**e nights.

Maybe that phase comes. Maybe it doesn't.

There is no moral victory in doing this beautifully.

After a decade of sitting across from people in some of the hardest moments of their lives, here's what we know:

Healing doesn't have a single shape.
It doesn't have a timeline.
And it doesn't always look like getting better.

However you’re healing today, we celebrate you.

And since you opened this...

Now you have something to do.

Tell us: What does your healing look like?

A client of Jenny's used to panic every time a siren went by. Downtown Chicago — we hear a lot of them.

Instead of trying to tune it out, they used it. Every siren became a question: what does this sound mean, right now, in this room? Over time the answer changed. Help is on the way. Someone's responding. That sound means people show up. It no longer has to signal danger.

Weeks later, a siren went off mid-session and neither noticed. That's what it looks like when it stops being trauma and starts being background noise again.

Here's the thing nobody tells you: stress is your nervous system reacting to now. Trauma is your nervous system still reacting to then — a memory dressed up as a present-day emergency. Your body genuinely cannot tell the difference on its own. That's not a character flaw. That's neurology.

So if something feels like it "should be over by now" but isn't — that's not you being dramatic. That's your old brain still standing guard.

We wrote the full breakdown, plus a checklist to help you figure out which one you might be carrying (spoiler: it's usually both) —

Ten years ago, we set out to build a therapy practice that felt different, not just for our clients, but for the clinicians providing the care.

Over the last decade, Gemstone Wellness has grown into a women-, q***r-, and Latina-led space in Chicago centered on depth-oriented, trauma-informed therapy. But our clinical work is only as strong as our internal culture.

We’ve learned that ethical care requires internal balance. That means replacing traditional top-down dynamics with transparent, co-decision leadership, maintaining healthy boundaries, and ensuring our team is supported with the same compassion and respect we offer our clients.

Reaching a decade in practice is a profound honor and privilege, one we do not take for granted. We are using this milestone not just to celebrate, but to reflect, listen, and continue learning, adjusting, and adapting to the evolving needs of our team and community as best we can. Humility, openness, and a deep trust in abundance have carried us this far, and they will continue to guide our practice and those we counsel into the future.

When a practice is built on trust, transparency, and sustainable work culture from the inside out, everyone thrives.

Dear clients,

We can imagine few things more sacred than being trusted with another person's story.

Every week, you invite us into what's personal. What hurt, what you fear, what you hope for. You let us witness parts of yourself few others see. And you keep choosing us. We don't take that lightly.

This work is hard sometimes, too. Days we're not sure we're making progress. Days we sit with a rupture, or with not knowing what the next step should be.

And still, we're connected to meaning. Sometimes in the profound moments: watching someone finally understand something they've carried for years, or begin to believe their life can be different. Sometimes in the smaller ones: laughing together for the first time, hearing how the hard conversation with your mom went, the job you were nervous to apply for, the boundary you finally set.

Therapy isn't a transaction. You're trusting us with your humanity, letting us accompany you through some of the most ordinary, painful, and transformative chapters of your life. That's a privilege we don't take lightly.

We respect your willingness to keep showing up. To believe you're worth taking seriously. That your life deserves care.

In a world with many things that resemble therapeutic support, we're grateful you keep choosing something real: to know and be known, to repair, to build something over time.

Gratitude doesn't feel like a large enough word for what this means to us.

So today, simply: thank you for letting us know you. We'll keep putting our hearts into this work for as long as you'll have us.

With deep gratitude,
Gemstone Wellness

Everything you need in an anxiety bag, and why each item works on your nervous system.

Not the cute aesthetic version. The one that helps when anxiety spikes and nothing else is working.

Save this one. Build your bag this week. And if you find yourself reaching for it every single day, that's worth paying attention to. Anxiety therapy can help with what's underneath.
