We hear “early detection” all the time, but what does it actually involve? On Soulibration, we’re exploring breast changes to look for, what happens during a mammogram, how to do self exams, and what comes next after an abnormal result. Radiologist Dr. Yolanda Bryce and Know Your Lemons founder Dr. Corrine Ellsworth-Beaumont join Shameika for this important topic.

The BlackDoctor Film Festival is officially underway! 🎬✨

Today, we're bringing together powerful stories, meaningful conversations and voices that are reshaping how we see health and wellness in our communities.

From the films on screen to the conversations happening in the room, we're celebrating Black storytelling and the impact our stories can have — and we're only halfway through the day. 🎥

The energy is here, the conversations are flowing, and there's still more to come.

Stay tuned as we continue bringing you moments from the throughout the day!

🚨 Kidney disease doesn't always come with obvious warning signs.
For many Black Americans living with focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS), symptoms can go unnoticed until significant kidney damage has already occurred.
But delayed diagnosis isn't always about missing the signs. Sometimes, it's about a healthcare system that misses them, too.

🧬 Genetic factors, including APOL1 risk variants, can increase the likelihood of developing certain kidney diseases. Symptoms like persistent swelling, fatigue, and foamy urine may be early warning signs. Limited access to specialists and delayed testing can make early detection even more challenging.

Your health deserves attention BEFORE it becomes an emergency. Knowing your risk, asking questions, and advocating for appropriate testing can make a difference.

Today, we recognize Indigenous Peoples’ Day — a time to honor the histories, cultures, traditions, and contributions of Indigenous peoples across generations. 🧡

Indigenous communities have carried knowledge, traditions, languages, and ways of caring for one another forward for centuries. Today is an opportunity to celebrate that legacy while recognizing that Indigenous culture isn’t simply history — it is living, evolving, and continuing today.

May we continue to listen, learn, preserve, and uplift Indigenous voices and communities.

Happy Indigenous Peoples’ Day!

An FSGS diagnosis doesn’t always tell the whole story. 💜

Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) can have different causes — and knowing why it developed can be just as important as knowing you have it.

From primary to secondary to genetic forms of FSGS, understanding your specific type can help guide conversations with your care team and determine which treatment approach may be right for you.

Knowing your type = knowing more about your kidney health. 🩺
