As a solopreneur, I’m especially grateful for the community I’ve found within ADCES. Being surrounded by people who share ideas, ask thoughtful questions, support one another, and bring different voices and experiences to the table has been incredibly inspiring.

Thank you to the Entrepreneurship COI for this recognition and for reminding me that showing up, connecting, and encouraging others can make a difference.

BIG NEWS IN DIABETES TECH
The FDA just authorized the first wearable that continuously monitors BOTH glucose AND ketones.

The FreeStyle Libre Duo 10 Day from Abbott.

Why is this important?

Until now, people at risk for diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) have generally needed to check ketones separately with a blood or urine ketone test that gives you a single point-in-time measurement.

This new technology continuously monitors glucose and ketones every minute and can alert users at risk of DKA when ketones reach a concerning level.

Why I’m excited about this!

DKA can develop quickly.

Being able to see that ketones are rising, rather than discovering an elevated ketone level from a single test, could provide an opportunity for earlier action and medical intervention.

The device is FDA-authorized for people 2 years and older with diabetes.

When will it be available?

The FDA authorization was announced August 25, 2026. Abbott has not yet announced a specific U.S. commercial launch date, so stay tuned for availability details.

NEWS: The FDA has authorized the first wearable sensor that continuously tracks ketone levels, along with blood sugar (glucose), in a single, wearable device.

For people living with diabetes, rising ketone levels can be an early warning sign of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) — a serious and potentially life-threatening complication. This device checks ketone levels and glucose levels every minute and sends alerts if they reach concerning levels, giving you and your caregivers more time to act.

The device is authorized for individuals as young as 2 years, making it an option for families managing diabetes in children. https://www.fda.gov/news-events/press-announcements/fda-authorizes-first-wearable-device-continuously-monitors-both-ketone-levels-and-blood-sugar

A Medicare GLP-1 Bridge Tip

Twice this week, I’ve had clients start their Zepbound® KwikPen® and realize they didn’t receive pen needles with their prescription.

This is a good reminder: pen needles are not included as part of the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge program, so they may need to be purchased/prescribed separately.

What is the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge?
The Bridge is a temporary CMS program that began July 1, 2026, providing eligible Medicare beneficiaries access to certain GLP-1 medications for weight management.

Cost: $50/month
Program: July 1, 2026–December 31, 2027

Currently included:
• Foundayo®
• Wegovy® injection and tablets
• Zepbound® KwikPen®

A helpful tip: If you are starting a GLP-1 KwikPen through the Bridge, ask your healthcare team or pharmacy about pen needles before you leave the pharmacy.

A hospital a bit closer to Chico now offers Tzield therapy and in bigger news Tzield was recently expanded for approval of stage 3 type 1 diabetes!!

Tzield is FDA-approved for two stages of type 1 diabetes and helps preserve insulin-producing cells (beta cells), potentially improving long-term outcomes

> What's the difference between stages of type 1 diabetes?
Stage 1: Two or more diabetes autoantibodies and normal blood glucose.
Stage 2: Two or more autoantibodies with abnormal blood glucose but does not yet meet diagnosis criteria.
Stage 3: Symptomatic diabetes requiring insulin therapy.

> What could Tzield do?

Stage 2 (ages 1+): Delays progression to Stage 3 (clinical diabetes).

Recently diagnosed Stage 3 (ages 8–17): Helps preserve beta-cell function by delaying the decline in the body's own insulin production when started soon after diagnosis. - preserving some beta cells means a bit of help to keep glucose values in range.

This expanded approval and access marks an exciting advance!

Now is the time to prepare for the transition to a new continuous glucose monitor.

If you currently wear a Dexcom G6:
✔️ Contact your healthcare provider or diabetes care team about updating your prescription
✔️ Check compatibility with your insulin pump, smartphone, or receiver before switching
✔️ Avoid waiting until your last sensor runs out to begin the transition

If you have questions about changing your CGM, reach out to your diabetes care and education specialist (thats me!) or healthcare provider.

A client's husband recently MADE me a wishing well and said, "You already granted my wish." His wish? Helping his wife experience fewer hypoglycemic episodes and improve her confidence in managing type 1 diabetes.

My client's A1C looked great, but she was still struggling with frequent highs and lows and the anxiety that came with them. Instead of focusing solely on her A1C, we looked at the bigger picture. With a few personalized changes, she was able to reduce glucose ups and downs and feel safer, healthier, and more confident.

Moments like these remind me why I love what I do. ️ ❤️
