Research Spotlight: Foot Reflexology After Knee Replacement
A randomized controlled study involving 40 patients examined whether foot reflexology could help manage pain and fear of movement following total knee replacement surgery.
What did the study find?
Patients who received foot reflexology experienced:
✓ Faster pain reduction compared to patients who did not receive reflexology.
✓ Improved knee-related symptoms and function over the course of the study.
✓ Less fear of movement, which can be a barrier to recovery after surgery.
✓ Reduced use of pain medication compared to the control group.
What does this mean?
The findings suggest that foot reflexology may be a helpful addition to postoperative care by supporting pain management, comfort, and confidence with movement during recovery.
At The Zaniya Center, we recognize the value of complementary approaches that support whole-body care. Reflexology may offer an additional way to support relaxation and comfort alongside appropriate medical care and rehabilitation.
Please note: This study included 40 patients, so further research is needed to confirm these findings in larger groups.
