TIME ran a story this week asking whether patients can trust the compounding pharmacies behind the GLP-1 boom. Fair question. Here's what I'd want to know if I were the patient:
1. Is the pharmacy licensed and inspected by your state board? (Ours is Texas.)
2. Where does the active ingredient come from? Ask for an FDA-registered supplier.
3. Are batches tested for potency and sterility?
4. Can you actually talk to the pharmacist who made it?
Compounded medications aren't FDA-approved, and they're meant for patients whose needs aren't met by a commercially available product, based on a prescriber's judgment. That's exactly why the pharmacy's process matters so much.
If you have questions about any compounded medication, from us or anyone else, call us. We'll answer.
