Strength training is one of the best ways to invest in your long-term health.

It’s not just about building muscle. Regular strength training can help support bone health, balance, posture, brain function, blood sugar regulation, recovery, and the strength you need for everyday life.

As we age, maintaining muscle and strength becomes even more important. Training for longevity means building a body that can keep you moving, independent, and doing the things you love for years to come.

Build strength today. Move better tomorrow.

Rolled your ankle once? That's the biggest predictor you'll roll it again.

Most people wait for the swelling to go down and call it healed. But a sprain doesn't just stretch the ligament. It messes with the signal between your ankle and your brain that tells your foot where it is. If you don't retrain that, your ankle is basically guessing.

The good news: balance training cuts your risk of another sprain by about a third. It's simple, and it works.

Try this:
→ Stand on one foot for 30 seconds
→ Too easy? Close your eyes
→ Still easy? Stand on a pillow or foam pad

If that's harder than you expected, your ankle is telling you something. We can help you fix it.

Balance is what keeps you independent.

It's what lets you step off a curb without thinking, carry groceries up the stairs, and get out of a low chair without pushing off the armrests. And like strength, you lose it if you don't train it.

I talked with HuffPost about balance pads and whether they belong in your routine as you age. My short answer: they can help, but you don't need special equipment to start. The best balance training is the one that matches where you are right now.

Try this at your kitchen counter, with a hand close by for safety: stand on one foot. Can you hold it for 10 seconds on each side? If not, that's useful information, not a reason to panic, and it's very trainable.

I started my career in neuro rehab, working with stroke and spinal cord injury patients. Watching people rebuild balance from scratch taught me that it's never too late to improve it.

Myofascial Cupping: What Does It Actually Do?
Myofascial cupping uses suction to gently lift the skin and underlying tissues, creating a different type of mechanical stimulus than traditional hands-on techniques.
Unlike massage, which typically applies downward pressure, cupping creates an upward pull on the tissues. Research suggests it may help reduce pain in some conditions, although evidence for its effectiveness and long-term benefits is still limited.
What about the circular marks left behind? These marks can occur when suction causes small blood vessels near the skin’s surface to leak blood into surrounding tissue. Their color or intensity does not indicate how effective the treatment was.
Cupping may temporarily affect discomfort and mobility, but results vary. It’s one technique among many, and its usefulness depends on the individual and the condition being addressed.

Can Myofascial Release “Unlock” Fascia?

Fascia is connective tissue that surrounds and supports muscles, organs, nerves, and other structures throughout the body. It plays an important role in movement and how tissues interact.

Myofascial release uses hands-on techniques to address areas of discomfort or restricted movement. However, stiffness and limited mobility can have multiple contributing factors, so hands-on treatment may be only one part of the picture.

Movement patterns, strength, mobility, breathing, and previous injuries can all influence how your body moves.

Understanding the cause of restricted movement is just as important as addressing the symptoms.

As featured in : feeling sick after a massage?

Sore, tired, or just "off" the day after deep tissue work? People call it "massage flu," but it's not the flu.

Our own Dr. Emily Poirier, PT, DPT, told GLAMOUR what's really going on and when to pay attention.

The quick version:
→ Normal: mild soreness or fatigue that fades within a day or two
→ Call a provider: fever, pain that gets worse instead of better, significant swelling, or dark urine

Hands-on work can be a great tool. But if you keep needing it for the same tight spot, that tightness is usually a symptom, not the root problem. At WAVE, manual therapy is one part of a one-on-one plan built to find out why your body keeps holding tension, and to change it.

I see "shrimp posture" in our clinic every single week. Shoulders rounded, head forward, upper back curled like you're bracing against the day.

I talked with Parade about what it is, why it happens, and what actually helps.

Try this quick check: stand with your heels, hips, and shoulders against a wall. Can the back of your head touch the wall without tipping your chin up? If not, your body is telling you something.

Posture on its own isn't the enemy. Staying stuck in one position is. Your body was designed to move, and small changes to how you move add up fast.

If neck tension, upper back tightness, or headaches are part of your daily routine, that's what we work on one-on-one at WAVE.

You just realized you don’t have to live in shrimp mode forever.

If you spend your day at a desk, on your phone, driving, or constantly looking down, your body can start to feel stuck in that rounded posture.

The good news? Your posture and mobility can be trained. 🙌

This simple stretch can help open up the front of your body, improve upper-back mobility, and counter some of the stiffness that comes from sitting all day.

And because it’s National Physical Therapy Month, consider this your reminder that physical therapy isn’t just for injuries — it’s also about helping you move better, feel better, and stay active.
