Can we please stop calling testosterone a “male hormone”?

Women make it too!

Androgen receptors are found across the female body, including the brain, muscle, bone, skin and ge***al tissues.
Our biology deserves a conversation that goes beyond libido, but here’s where we need to be precise: having a receptor doesn’t prove that taking testosterone improves every tissue where that receptor exists.

The strongest treatment evidence is for postmenopausal women with hypoactive sexual desire disorder...persistently low desire that causes distress. Benefits for energy, cognition, muscle, bone and metabolic health are not established enough to promise them.

Women deserve better research, thoughtful care and honest conversations about both what we know and what we’re still learning.

Save this for the next time someone says, “testosterone is only for men.” 🤍

“earlier menopause age was associated with faster global cognitive decline (β = –0.0009 SD per year earlier menopause age”

But don’t you dare say the brain eats itself (catabolism and loss of white matter) otherwise the online community will p**p their proverbial pants on you. IYKYK

Sometimes the truth hurts. But is it better to keep the truth from women?

ALZHEIMER’S CLUE: A large Stanford study is shedding new light on the potential connection between menopause treatment and brain health.

Women who reported using estrogen-only hormone therapy had 35% lower odds of Alzheimer’s-related brain pathology and 39% lower odds of dementia over their lifetimes, researchers found.

The study also uncovered differences in memory, independent functioning and biological markers. Here’s what the findings could mean — and what they don’t yet prove.
