This year, one of my biggest goals was to cultivate true, organic friendships that reflect not only my core values as a business owner, but also who I am as a person and a parent.

I want people in my life who not only strive to be better, but who can also be fully themselves. People who share the honest parts of life. People who know who they are and aren’t afraid to show up in both the good and the hard.

I crave honesty; I crave authenticity. I love conversations that skip the surface and go straight to the truth of our lived experiences. I deeply respect people who not only invite me to the table, but also recognize that I’ve helped build it.

The older I get, the more I realize my legacy isn’t my work. It’s the impact I make in this life by showing up exactly as I am. This year, I truly feel like God has placed the right people in my life. People who build me up, support me when I’m down, listen, encourage, and make room for me to do the same for them.

A special shout-out to Tyler McNeil The Nesting Collab (👋🏽 I'm Morgan) Healing STL who continue to invite me into what they have built. Last night, I had the honor of speaking again at their Birth Course, a course I wholeheartedly believe in.

What I love most is that they continue to bring other providers into the room because they understand that community doesn’t dilute what we do; it makes all of us better.

Something really special is happening within the birth and postpartum community here in St. Louis, and some days, I just look around and think, damn, I’m grateful to have a seat at this table.

Postpartum support isn’t coming over and asking a freshly postpartum mother what she needs, look around.

Bring the meal, switch the laundry, wash the bottles, take the dog for a walk, refill her water, hold the baby while SHE showers, eats, or sleeps.

MOM THE MOM

Everyone wants to hold the baby, be the person who holds the mother.

Some of these might sting a little. But after spending thousands of hours inside postpartum homes, I’d rather tell you now than have you learn them while you’re exhausted and in the thick of it.

Prepare yourself, your partner and your family as much as you prepare for your baby.

That’s exactly what we’ll be doing at my Essential Postpartum Workshop on October 24 from 9:30-11am Healing STL

Come build your postpartum plan & village before you need it.

Lately, success has looked a lot like being off on a random Tuesday and spending it with my family.

Birth gets a plan, and postpartum deserves one too.
Prepare for the part no one talks about enough.

I wish I had prepared differently for my own postpartum experiences. Now, after spending hundreds of hours inside the homes of postpartum families, I see the same thing over and over:

We need to prepare for postpartum BEFORE we’re in it.

Not because we can control how postpartum will unfold, but because we can build systems. We can gather resources and prepare our homes. Most importantly, we can build our village before we need it.

That’s why I created the Essential Postpartum Workshop. My next workshop will be held on
Saturday, September 5th, 9:30–11:00 AM DrRebecca

Come with your partner or bring your mom, sister, best friend, or whoever will be part of your postpartum village.

Mothers and babies were never meant to do this alone. Let me help you prepare for what comes after birth.

Registration is in my bio.

One of the most exhausting parts of postpartum is having to tell everyone what you need because sometimes you’re in such a fog, you don’t even know where to start.

Sometimes even answering a simple question like “Do you need anything?” feels like one more thing on a mother’s plate. When I walk into a client’s home, I don’t want her to manage me; I read the room.

I see the laundry, I notice the dishes, I refill the water, I prep the food. I hold, feed, diaper, or babywear. I walk the dog, water the flowers, put gas in the car, and kindly suggest mom takes a nap. I help with basic lactation and newborn care, and offer resources.

Sometimes, I do none of those things; sometimes I sit beside her and listen. Over the years, I’ve realized that postpartum support isn’t just about doing things; it’s about paying attention.

It’s noticing what would make a mother feel fed, rested, heard, cared for, and a little less overwhelmed, and doing it without making her carry the mental load of asking.

My job is to “mother the mother,” as I see it. If you know I postpartum mom, I hope this gives you some insight on things you can do without being asked.

My goal with this workshop has always been simple: I want families to prepare for postpartum with the same intention we bring to birth.

Postpartum was never meant to be something mothers figure out once they’re already in it.

Let’s build the village before baby/babies arrive.

There are so many incredible people working in the birth space, but the postpartum community is still relatively small.

This work has shown me over and over again just how needed postpartum support is. Even families with incredible villages can benefit from someone who specializes in postpartum care. Someone trained to notice what others may not see, anticipate needs, offer resources, and care for the mother. At the same time, everyone else is focused on the baby.

The work I do doesn’t end when I leave someone’s home. When I’m not with my own kids, I’m often in another family’s home. And when everyone is sleeping, I’m getting up early or staying up late to write emails, create resources, educate, make videos, build workshops, and try to grow a business I believe in with my whole heart.

I’m sharing this because I always want to be transparent. I love this work, and I believe in it more than ever. But meaningful work can be beautiful AND heavy.

Right now, I’m learning how to hold both.

Please tell me other moms do this. 😂

No talking, no sharing my food, no kids in my arms, just me, my thoughts, and half a watermelon. 🍉

P.S. Watermelons are supposed to have seeds. I said what I said…
