🎀 Breast Cancer Awareness Month is about more than wearing pink – it’s about knowing when to take action.
Breast cancer screening can help detect cancer before symptoms appear, which is why routine screening is an important part of preventive healthcare.
For women at average risk, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommends a mammogram every 2 years from ages 40–74. Your individual screening needs may be different depending on your health status and personal and family history.
A few things worth remembering:
🎀 Know your family history – and remember, your father’s side counts too.
🎀 Know what’s normal for you – a new lump, changes in breast size or shape, skin changes, ni**le changes or unusual discharge should all be discussed with a healthcare provider.
🎀 Don’t wait for your next screening if something changes – bring new or unusual breast changes to your provider’s attention.
🎀 Ask about your individual risk – screening recommendations may differ for people at higher risk.
This October, make awareness actionable. Know your history. Pay attention to changes. Know when to get screened.
