In just 14 days, Cleveland will experience one of the most powerful evenings of conversation, connection, and hope.

We're tackling a topic that has been surrounded by silence, stigma, and shame for far too long: mental health.

There should NEVER be shame in someone's struggle. Behind every story is a person, a family, and a journey that deserves compassion, understanding, and hope.

It's time to break the silence, have the difficult conversations, and remind people they are not alone.

Join us for HEAL Conference: Mental Health Edition. This is more than an event. It's a conversation that could change someone's life.

On July 23, 2025, Officer Payne's life changed forever when he was shot during a deadly ambush that took the life of a fellow officer.

After 25 years in law enforcement, it was this tragedy that led him to truly recognize the importance of addressing his own mental health.

His story is one of courage, resilience, and the reality that even those who dedicate their lives to protecting others need support, too.

You spend your life showing up for others. This evening, we want to show up for YOU.

What if one evening could completely change the way you look at mental health?

On October 29th, we're bringing together an incredible lineup of speakers for the HEAL Conference: Mental Health Edition, and I couldn't be more excited about the conversations we're going to have.

MEET OUR SPEAKERS!

Natalie Herbick, FOX 8 – Our incredible emcee will guide us through an evening of powerful stories, meaningful conversations, and hope.

Sgt. Travis Mills – One of only five quadruple amputees from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to survive his injuries, Travis will share a powerful message about resilience, overcoming adversity, and finding purpose after unimaginable trauma.

Drew Kanaba – After developing debilitating OCD from PANDAS at age 10 and reaching a point where he had planned to take his own life at just 17 years old, Drew will share his powerful journey from hopelessness to hope and how uncovering the physical contributors to his mental health struggles changed the course of his life.

Amber Bowers, LPCC-S – Drawing from her personal experience and professional counseling background, Amber will explore the powerful connection between physical symptoms, emotional health, and the nervous system.

Marisa Barber – Author of The Other Side of Addiction, Marisa will shine a light on the often-overlooked emotional toll addiction takes on families and the people who love someone struggling with substance use.

Officer Payne, Lorain Police Department – Following a traumatic ambush in the line of duty, Officer Payne will share his personal journey through trauma, mental health challenges, and recovery.

THIS IS MORE THAN A CONFERENCE.

It's an opportunity to challenge what we think we know about mental health, hear stories that deserve to be told, and walk away with a new perspective.

Whether you're a parent, teacher, counselor, first responder, healthcare professional, or someone who has personally struggled with mental health, there is something here for YOU.

Addiction doesn’t happen in isolation. When someone is struggling with substance use, the impact can extend deeply into the lives and mental health of the people who love them. Yet the emotional and psychological toll on families and loved ones is often overlooked.

In this presentation, Marisa Barber, author of The Other Side of Addiction, will share the personal and professional journey that led her to advocate for the family members and loved ones affected by addiction. Drawing from her career in the behavioral health and substance use disorder field, as well as her own lived experience of loving someone with addiction, Marisa will share why she wrote her book and the perspective she hopes to bring to the addiction and mental health conversation.

Marisa will explore what happens on the “other side” of addiction, the grief, fear, shame, anger, resentment, guilt, helplessness, hope, and uncertainty that loved ones can experience while trying to navigate someone else’s substance use. Over time, the constant uncertainty and need to anticipate what might happen next can contribute to chronic stress, hypervigilance, emotional exhaustion, and a nervous system that rarely feels able to fully relax. In the process of trying to help their loved one, family members can find themselves struggling with their own mental and emotional health.

October is Mental Health Awareness Month. 💚

And maybe one of the most important things we can do this month is keep the conversation going.

Mental health struggles don’t always look the way we expect them to. Sometimes there’s more happening beneath the surface—physically, emotionally, environmentally, and spiritually.

That’s why we created the HEAL Conference: Mental Health Edition.

An evening of real stories. Different perspectives. Important conversations. And most importantly—HOPE.

If you or someone you love has struggled with anxiety, depression, OCD, trauma, overwhelm, or simply feeling like there have to be more answers, we hope you’ll join us.

We are incredibly blessed and honored to have a true hero joining us at the HEAL Conference: Mental Health Edition.

Lorain Police Officer Brent Payne has spent the last year recovering after being shot in a deadly ambush while responding to help fellow officers.

After 25 years in law enforcement and experiencing more tragedy than most of us can imagine, Brent shares that it wasn’t until this ambush—and the injuries and recovery that followed—that he began to truly address his own mental health.

Now, he is choosing to share his story.

Not because it’s easy.

But because another officer, first responder, veteran, parent—or anyone silently carrying the weight of trauma—may need to hear it.

There is incredible strength in asking for help. There is strength in talking about what hurts. And there is strength in realizing you don’t have to carry it alone.

We are deeply honored that Officer Brent Payne will take the HEAL stage and share his story of survival, recovery, and hope.

This is going to be a powerful night. ❤️

We hope to see you there!
