This is a conversation we need to be having about Alzheimer’s.
I’m sharing this from Dr. David Perlmutter because it gets to the heart of why I chose to do the work I do.
As a Certified Bredesen Protocol 2.0 Health Coach, I work from a very different perspective: Alzheimer’s is complex. There can be many different contributors to cognitive decline, and those contributors can look very different from one person to another.
That’s why I believe we need to look beyond a single target and start asking a much bigger question: What is happening in this individual that may be contributing to cognitive decline?
This is true whether someone is working toward prevention or is already experiencing cognitive decline.
There is another conversation happening around Alzheimer’s. And people need to know about it.

Clearing beta-amyloid isn’t an Alzheimer’s cure.
A recent story celebrated an Alzheimer’s patient whose brain scans showed that amyloid plaques had been cleared after treatment. That is certainly a biological result worth discussing. The larger question is whether removing amyloid meaningfully changes the course of the disease.
For decades, enormous resources have been directed toward amyloid as a primary target in Alzheimer’s disease. I believe the continued focus on what accumulates in the brain risks distracting us from a far more important question. What created the conditions that allowed the disease to develop in the first place?
That question is at the heart of my New York Times Bestselling book, Brain Defenders. If we want to change the future of Alzheimer’s, I believe we have to look much earlier in the disease process and understand what is driving it.
