Completely trusting the Lord and having faith in Him is not always easy. Our natural instinct is to fix our problems, find solutions and make everything work. But what happens when our problems seem impossible to solve? When the anxiety creeps in, the stress builds, and no matter how hard we try, the maths just don’t add up?
The Bible tells us to hand our worries over to God: “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” — 1 Peter 5:7
But sometimes, doing that feels like jumping off a cliff when we cannot see the safety net below us. We have to let go of our own need to control the outcome and trust that God will catch us.
Today, I was thinking about the miracle of Jesus feeding the five thousand. Imagine being one of the disciples, looking at five loaves of bread and two fish and being asked to feed thousands of hungry people. The numbers simply didn’t add up! Yet, in Jesus’ hands, what seemed so insufficient became more than enough.
🙏🏻“With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” — Matthew 19:26
Sometimes I look at the challenges in front of me, the things I need to do and the decisions I need to make, and I realise the maths just don’t add up. I cannot see how everything will work out, and I don’t have all the answers.
But perhaps that is where faith begins. Not when everything makes sense, but when it doesn’t. Not when we can see the way forward, but when we trust the One who can.
I may not know how things will work out, but I know that what is impossible for me is not impossible for Him.
Perhaps you are facing something similar today. Perhaps you have been trying to work out the numbers, find the solution or figure out how everything can possibly come together.
What if, instead of trying to make the maths work, we simply trusted the One who is not limited by them?
Living by faith means taking that step when we cannot see what lies ahead, trusting that Jesus is there, even when we cannot see the safety net.
"For we live by faith, not by sight.” — 2 Corinthians 5:7
