We always joke that the Kona Underpants Run is the real A-race during Ironman World Championship week. Jokes on us this time since it’s the only “race” the adults completed! (Shout out to our kids for bringing home the hardware in the Keiki Dip ‘n Dash! 🙌)

Our littles were only intermittently motivated during this year’s UPR, so it’s safe to say we got our money’s worth in time on the course. 😂 It will forever be hilarious to me that these triathlete kids are growing up with things like this as their childhood memories!

On a much lighter note, we present the 3rd and final installment of “The Recent History of the Ironman World Championship in Kona, As Told by the Barbie Movie.” 🩷🎥😂

Episode 3, 2026: Everyone is Together in Kona Again!

The Kens can’t help but notice it’s a whole lot dreamier when the Barbies are back. 😉😂 It was so fun having everyone together at the Ironman World Championship again!

Pretty devastating end to the unluckiest Kona # 7 for Matt Davis. 💔

Matt had a lot of lingering pain in his ribs from his crash on Tuesday (front tire blew off the rim when he hit debris on a downhill). But he did his shakeouts just fine (with some discomfort) yesterday so it was a green light.

He was kicked in that exact injured spot when the cannon went off and struggled to breathe. Matt wanted this so badly for Sam, so he swam kayak to kayak to just try to make the swim cutoff. After 51 minutes, he was almost to the turnaround when he felt like he was drowning — which made no sense because he could still swim. Huge thanks to Pete the paddle board volunteer who convinced Matt to call it (“Even though you can swim, you can still drown.”)

Matt’s oxygen was 83 in the med tent, so they loaded him on an ambulance with oxygen. Skip to the end, and thank goodness for Pete because Matt’s “drowning” feelings were right — it’s just that he was drowning from the inside.

The CT scan showed a cracked rib and, much more scarily, SIPE. Swimming Induced Pulmonary Edema can be deadly in Ironman swims, so I’m really proud of Matt for recognizing danger (even though he didn’t know what it was) and making the hard choice.

We’re not okay right now, but thank goodness he will be okay.

ALOHA!!! 🌺🌊☀️🌴🌋 We made it to Kona on Sunday and had the best first couple days playing with the fam in Waikoloa!

The hardest part of bringing the kids to the Ironman World Championship is *getting here* — so landing in one piece with all of our bags always feels like quite the accomplishment. 😅🙌 Swipe for crazy arrival days of family Kona’s past! Promise we pack much lighter without them. 🤣

Let’s see, how to even begin? This was a mentally and logistically challenging nightmare of a summer, and I worked so hard to make everything good for everyone else that I broke myself in the process. (But what other choice was there?)

World’s longest story short: Matt’s military move orders came extremely late, which led to a nightmare situation in which we couldn’t find a house and the school district repeatedly ignored the law and wouldn’t let us register our high school football player for school or sports, so we had to get the State Department of Education *and* JAG lawyers involved, and we eventually won, but with only 3 days to spare before the school year started, so Matt moved to Ohio alone at the end of July and I stayed behind with the kids and pieced our mostly-exited life back together (minus one very important driver/parent/partner) and have been solo parenting my extremely busy kids alone for the past couple months.

It was all a nightmare for a long time. And the resolution is both wonderful — hooray for an encore in CO! — and really, really crappy (we’re all big fans of having Matty the Daddy around vs. two time zones away). The great news is that our kids are thriving! The good news is that I’ve found a decent groove and am doing just fine now; I’m just swamped. Meanwhile, Matt has been able to fly in for some important weekends (birthday and a first high school football game), and FaceTime is coming in clutch. Our current plan is to move to Ohio with him after the semester… 🤷🏼‍♀️

In the meantime, our family trip to Kona couldn’t have come at a better time. Lots of happy memories on deck! 🩷

Happy 4th of July!!! 🇺🇸

We kicked off the holiday in my favorite way — with a local race before a cute parade! Huge thanks to Pinspark Activewear for the perfect running outfits for both me and Jake!! So cute and functional (pockets!!) and perfectly patriotic for the day.

Originally we were supposed to spend the weekend out of town for Jake’s baseball tournament, but sadly Colorado is dealing with awful wildfires so his tourney was canceled at the last minute. We pivoted to the hometown plans & Jake was down to hop into the 4-mile race with me… just a *smidge* longer than the 30 yards he’d been planning on running between bases all weekend. 😂 So proud of him for making lemonade out of a bummer situation! And so fun to tally the miles together.

Then it was off to the parade, ice cream, pool, BBQ, and all of the 4th of July goodness! Hope you had a great holiday, too!!! ❤️🤍💙

The countdown is on for this year’s Navy Federal Jams, right here in Colorado Springs! Matt and I have been members for years, and they’ve always taken great care of us as a military family. One of the coolest ways they give back to the military community is through their concert series, and we are so excited to attend this year!

Kane Brown will be performing right here at Broadmoor World Arena on May 31st. It’s going to be such a fun way to celebrate Military Appreciation Month!

Only two days late posting Mother’s Day pics feels pretty good for Maycember, no? Hanging on for dear life and loving every second of it, because goodness knows it all goes by too fast.

Forever grateful to be their mom!!! 💙🩷💙🩷

London Marathon race recap, the finale! 🇬🇧

I took off from the Tower of London on an absolute high and immediately entered party mode! The spectators were phenomenal and I was so charmed by their enthusiastically polite cheers: “Well done, Ashley!” “Brilliant, Ashley!” “Jolly effort!” “Good on you!” Even a “Let’s go!” was so endearing with their lovely accents. I was wholly won over.

Around mile 15, I was handed an otter pop by a spectator and therefore declared the race a success!

Then at the mile 17 marker, I realized I was actually still running a decent marathon. 😂 I’d thought a sub-3:30 was completely out the window after my stop, but turns out I was still hovering around an 8:00 average pace. I was freshly caffeinated and feeling really good, so I started doing the mental math to figure out how much extra mileage I had & just how fast I’d have to run to hit sub-3:30, or if it’d just be hitting it on my watch so not as worth it to bury myself…

And that’s when I saw Kindal struggling up ahead.

My heart sank because I knew how ready she was for a fast race, and I know the feeling when your body just doesn’t allow you to express that (RIP me at Ironman Maryland with my severe jellyfish reaction… clearly still not over it 😂). But then I was also excited, because that meant we could finish this thing together after all!!! All thoughts of time immediately vanished.

There had been a couple runners carried off the course by medics in front of me already, so there was a zero percent chance I was leaving my best friend while she was feeling unwell. Instead, I took it upon myself to find provisions that an upset stomach would accept: coke and oranges.

We ran and walked, and I waited while she visited the port-a-loos.

I kept giving Kindal a countdown — not to the finish line, but to , who was waiting at mile 23. “Only 2 miles left to Charlie…” And Charlie was such a welcome sight! She had coke ready & waiting, along with an understanding hug. Thank goodness for good friends. ❤️

It should have been smooth sailing at that point, but we ran into a dark tunnel & I took my final fuel… And when I looked up, Kindal was gone?!?!
