Did you know that over 70% of babies wake one or more times a night between the ages of 6 and 18 months? Waking at night to feed is NORMAL and important! Here's why:

🛡️ Night waking and breastfeeding are protective against SIDS. or for at least two months (either exclusively or in combination with supplementation) cuts the risk of SIDS nearly in half! Continue for six months or more and that risk is reduced by 64%!

⬆️ Prolactin (the hormone that promotes milk making) is highest at night and rises when your body is stimulated by latching or pumping. High prolactin levels and frequent milk removal help you to build & maintain your milk supply. Following your baby's lead (especially at night) helps ensure your supply matches your baby's needs.

🤱 If your baby wants to nurse at night, it's because your baby needs to nurse at night - some take as much as 30- 50% of their total daily intake from nighttime feeds, which can be especially helpful during the distracted baby phase! As a bonus, nighttime feeds can also help delay the return of your menstrual cycle!

😴 Your milk is full of sleep inducing components that support your baby in building their circadian rhythm and help them to fall back to sleep. also causes hormones to be released that make both you and your baby feel calm and sleepy - they even help YOU to fall into a deeper sleep sooner!

🥗 Remember what and how much your baby eats is unrelated to how much they wake at night. A recent study found that what babies eat has little effect on their sleep - there is no evidence to suggest that adding solids or formula to your baby's diet will help them wake less often. Know that your baby will begin to sleep longer when they are developmentally ready to do so, gradually sleeping for longer stretches as they grow.

🥳🙌Best of all, studies show that parents who feed their baby with their body actually get more hours of sleep overall!

Tiger in the Tree hold

Actually it really should be leopard in the tree as although tigers can climb trees, you're more likely to find a leopard doing this!

Anyway I digress!

This is a fantastic position for calming a fractious baby. Particularly in those annoying evening "witching hours" when the b**b stops working. You can do all sorts of rocking and swaying, bum patting.

It's also a gentle way of winding your baby. And if they are lying on your left arm, they are less likely to sick up as the stomach's exit into the oesophagus will be pointing upwards. (Wonky winding)

It is a very safe way to carry your baby with one hand if you have to hold something in the other hand (you can move the bottom hand away and carry your shopping, car seat etc) as baby is leaning on your body and cannot roll off, and your hand is supporting them on their nappy.

Twin parents, you can also safely have one twin in each arm, which can be good if you have two fractious babies and one adult!

Sunflower lecithin is having a moment… and I get why
When you’re dealing with recurrent “clogs,” you’ll try anything to make it stop

But sunflower lecithin is not fixing the problem. At best, it’s a support tool. At worst, it delays you from actually solving what’s going on

Because what we call “plugged ducts” aren’t little chunks of milk stuck like a cork. They’re inflammation in the breast tissue

And inflammation always has a reason

So if you keep getting the same spot over and over… we need to zoom out 👇

Common root causes I see every day:

• Pump fl**ge that’s too big or too small → tissue trauma
• Suction set too high → swelling + micro-injury
• Shallow latch → inefficient milk removal + ni**le damage
• Oral restrictions (hello tongue tie) → poor drainage of the breast
• Going long stretches without feeding/pumping → milk stasis
• Tight bras, sports bras, carriers → external pressure on ducts
• Sleeping positions that compress the breast
• History of breast surgery (implants, reduction) → altered drainage patterns

👉 Lecithin doesn’t fix any of these

It may help make milk a little less “sticky” for some people
That’s it
It’s not treating inflammation
It’s not correcting milk removal
It’s not preventing recurrence if the root cause is still there

Don’t wait this out if:

• You’re getting recurrent clogs in the same area
• The breast is becoming red, hot, or more painful
• You feel flu-like symptoms (chills, body aches, fever)
• Things aren’t improving within 24–48 hours
