🍂 Feeling the fall fatigue? It might be more than the changing seasons!

As the days get shorter and temperatures cool down, it's not unusual to feel a little more tired. But if you're constantly reaching for another cup of coffee, struggling to stay focused, or waking up exhausted after a full night's sleep, your body may be telling you something.

Poor sleep quality and sleep-disordered breathing can contribute to persistent fatigue, regardless of the season.

A few signs worth paying attention to:
• Snoring or restless sleep
• Morning headaches or dry mouth
• Daytime sleepiness and brain fog
• Waking up feeling anything but refreshed

Don't automatically blame the shorter days! At Breathing and Sleep Center, we help patients explore what may be interfering with their sleep so they can get back to feeling their best.

October is Airway Awareness Month, bringing attention to the important connection between airway health, breathing, sleep quality, development, and overall well-being.

When breathing becomes restricted during sleep, it can interfere with the restorative rest our bodies need. And sometimes, the signs aren't as obvious as you might think!

For adults, signs may include:
✔️ Frequent snoring or mouth breathing
✔️ Morning headaches or dry mouth
✔️ Restless sleep or frequent waking
✔️ Daytime fatigue or brain fog
✔️ Feeling exhausted after a full night's sleep

For children, the clues may look a little different:
✔️ Snoring, mouth breathing, or teeth grinding
✔️ Restless sleep or unusual sleeping positions
✔️ Dark circles under the eyes
✔️ Difficulty waking in the morning
✔️ Irritability, trouble focusing, or challenges at school

Because children's airways, jaws, and facial structures are still developing, recognizing potential concerns early is especially important.

At Breathing and Sleep Center, we help individuals and families look beyond how many hours they're sleeping to better understand how well they're breathing while they sleep.

This Airway Awareness Month, pay attention to the signs. Better sleep may start with understanding the bigger picture! 719-203-4898. Breathe Well. Sleep Great. LIVE BETTER.

What does your sleep apnea score actually mean? 💜

If you've ever had a sleep study, you may have heard the term AHI (Apnea-Hypopnea Index). But what exactly does that number tell you?

AHI measures how many times per hour your breathing stops or becomes significantly reduced while you sleep.

It's one of the key measurements used to evaluate the severity of sleep apnea—but your AHI is only part of the bigger picture.

Your symptoms, oxygen levels, sleep quality, and overall health also matter when understanding how sleep-disordered breathing may be affecting you.

At Breathing and Sleep Center, we believe understanding your results is an important step toward finding the right care.

📖 Learn more about AHI, what the numbers mean, and why they matter in our latest blog!

Learn what your Apnea–Hypopnea Index (AHI) score means, how sleep apnea severity is measured, and treatment options that may help improve your sleep.

Diagnosed with sleep apnea? CPAP isn't the only conversation worth having.

CPAP can be an effective treatment for sleep apnea—but sleep care isn't one-size-fits-all.

At Breathing and Sleep Center, we look at the bigger picture: your airway, anatomy, breathing patterns, symptoms, and individual needs. Depending on the patient and diagnosis, there may be different approaches to improving nighttime breathing and getting the restorative sleep your body needs.

The goal isn't simply to treat a test result. It's to find a solution that works for you—and that you can realistically stick with.

💜 If you're struggling with your current sleep apnea treatment or wondering what options may be available, we're here to help. 719-203-4898

❤️ Your sleep and your heart health are more connected than you may realize.

Sleep apnea repeatedly interrupts breathing during sleep, which can affect oxygen levels and place additional stress on the cardiovascular system.

Signs like loud snoring, pauses in breathing during sleep, waking up gasping, or feeling chronically exhausted shouldn't be ignored.

This World Heart Day, we're reminding you that taking care of your sleep is part of taking care of your overall health—including your heart.

If your sleep is trying to tell you something, it's worth listening. 💜

FIX YOUR AIRWAY. FIX YOUR SLEEP. 💜

Sometimes, better sleep starts with better breathing. If your airway is compromised while you sleep, your body may repeatedly work harder to get the oxygen it needs—disrupting the deep, restorative sleep that helps you wake up feeling refreshed.

Signs of an airway or sleep-breathing issue can include:
- Snoring
- Mouth breathing
- Restless sleep
- Waking with a dry mouth or headache
- Daytime fatigue or brain fog
- Gasping or pauses in breathing during sleep

At Breathing and Sleep Center, we don't just ask how many hours you're sleeping. We look at how you're breathing while you sleep and what may be preventing your body from getting the rest it needs.

Better breathing can mean better sleep—and better days. 719-203-4898

🥤 Sippy Cups & Growing Smiles

Sippy cups are convenient, but prolonged use—especially cups that require your child to suck from a spout—may encourage oral habits that aren't ideal for a developing mouth.

As children grow, tongue position, swallowing patterns, and the way they use their lips and jaw all play a role in healthy oral and facial development.

When developmentally appropriate, introducing an open cup or straw cup helps children practice different oral-motor skills and move toward more mature drinking patterns.

💡 PRO TIP: Messes happen! Try offering an open cup at mealtime, when your child is already sitting at the table. Start with a small amount of liquid and let them practice. A few spills are part of learning!

At Breathing and Sleep Center, we look at the bigger picture—how the tongue, jaw, airway, breathing, and facial development work together as your child grows.

Healthy Aging Includes Healthy Sleep. Getting older may bring changes to your sleep, but constantly feeling tired, waking up unrested, or struggling with poor-quality sleep shouldn't simply be dismissed as a normal part of aging.

Restorative sleep plays an important role in supporting your health at every age, including:

🧠 Brain health — supporting memory, concentration, and cognitive function
❤️ Heart health — helping support healthy cardiovascular function
🛡️ Immune health — giving your body time to restore and recover
⚡ Energy — helping you stay active, alert, and engaged throughout the day
💜 Overall well-being — supporting mood, independence, and quality of life

This Healthy Aging Month, pay attention to what your sleep may be telling you. Persistent snoring, daytime fatigue, frequent waking, or other changes in sleep can be worth investigating.

Healthy aging isn't just about adding years to your life—it's about feeling your best throughout them. And better sleep can be an important part of that.
