From the podium to the poster hall, our division was everywhere at this year’s American Society for Surgery of the Hand Annual Meeting in Boston, MA, driving forward research, education, and leadership in hand and microsurgical care.
Dr. London delivered presentations spanning four corner fusion, wrist fusion, qualitative research methodology, and innovative approaches to surgical skills training using simulation and VR. He also served on multiple national committees — Clinical Research & Grantsmanship, Research Management, Quality and Value Care, and Patient Education. Underscoring his commitment to educating the next generation of hand surgeons, Dr. London once again served as a moderator for the Adrian E. Flatt Residents and Fellows Conference.
Our trainees presented original research at this year’s meeting: Anna Golden, MS (MS IV/PhD student) on clinical meaningfulness values in the literature, and Bryce Rizvanovic, PhD (postdoctoral fellow) on patient understanding of weight-bearing restrictions. Led by Dr. London, the division also presented research posters on PROM psychometric validation, mangled digit score validation, and the influence of patient expectations on outcomes, alongside Dr. Nuelle’s lab’s work on extended peripheral nerve allograft preservation and implantation in a large animal model.
Dr. Nuelle taught peripheral nerve surgery techniques at the Young Surgeons Skills Bootcamp, co-hosted a dinner for emerging leaders in nerve surgery, spoke at an innovation forum on integrating expertise and evidence into shared decision-making in nerve surgery in addition to serving on the ASSH Quality & Value Care Committee.
Our team was also excited to connect and network with former Mizzou residents to catch up on the great work they are doing in their communities.
This breadth of scholarship, teaching, and leadership reflects our ongoing commitment to advancing specialized hand and microsurgical care for our patients.
