With Hurricane Isaias approaching, I’m thinking of everyone in our community and praying for everyone’s safety. ❤️

I’m hoping to be open for appointments on Sunday, but that will depend on how things unfold over the next couple of days. I’ll keep everyone updated as I know more.

Please take care of yourselves and stay safe!

Hey everyone! I’ve been seeing a lot of shoulder pain lately, especially that burning or “knot” feeling around or underneath the shoulder blade.

Of course, this is something I can work with you on during a session, but there are also things you can do between sessions to keep your body moving and help yourself out.

One thing I often use is a gentle nerve floss, so I made a quick video to show you how to do it.

Give it a try and see how it feels!

I feel like I owe you guys a little behind-the-scenes update because life has been a little ridiculous around here lately. 😂

Our AC has been out since August 29.

Yes. **August 29.**

We have been slowly passing some sort of back-to-school cold crud plague around the house since then, so somebody is always coughing, sneezing, congested, or just generally feeling like garbage.

And because apparently that wasn't enough, the ants have decided they would also like to move in.

So that's fun. 😮‍💨😆

Needless to say, the last couple of weeks haven't exactly gone according to plan. Some things have gotten pushed to the side, including being as consistent on here as I have been trying to be.

But honestly, I think that's just real life.

Sometimes you have a plan for how your week (or month) is going to go, and then your air conditioner breaks, everyone gets sick, and suddenly you're standing in your kitchen having an argument with ants.

You deal with what's in front of you, do what you can, and keep moving.

I'm hoping the AC gets fixed soon, the germs finally leave our house, and the ants find somewhere else to vacation. 😂

And now, hopefully, we're slowly getting back to normal around here.

Apparently I have a business to run, an AC to pay for, and a house to keep from being overtaken by insects. 😂

Sometimes the hardest part of living with pain isn’t the pain itself.

It’s everything you start saying no to because of it. The hike sounds like too much. The yard can wait. You stop going to the gym.

You think twice before saying yes to a day out with your family because you already know how your body is going to feel afterward.

And eventually, you get really good at making your life fit around your pain. That doesn’t mean you’re stuck there.

Sometimes the first step is simply finding out what your body can do now—and whether we can help it do a little more.

You may not be able to do everything tomorrow. But there may be more possibility than you think.

Have you ever thought, "I've already tried massage, chiropractic, physical therapy, and a bunch of other things. Why would this be any different?"

It's a fair question.

What I do is different because I'm not just focused on what's happening in the tissue. I'm also looking at how you're moving and the role your nervous system may be playing in your pain.

You're an active part of the treatment, too. I'll have you move while I'm working, and we'll pay attention to what changes. We're not just trying to work on a painful area and hope it feels better when you get off the table.

Here's something I think is pretty interesting: your anatomy won’t suddenly change in a 30 minute session, but your pain and movement can.

That's one of the reasons I work the way I do. I'm interested in what your body is capable of, not just what might be wrong with it.

I've seen people make some pretty meaningful changes, and I believe there's a good chance I can help you, too. I can't promise exactly how much you'll improve or how quickly, but I can promise that we'll start where you are and work from there.

If you've tried a few things already and you're still hurting, maybe it's worth trying something different.

Most of the time when I ask someone what they want to be able to do when they start feeling better, the answer isn't anything huge.

“I just want to wash the dishes without my back screaming."

“I want to get back to golfing."

“I miss going to the car shows with the guys."

“I'd just like to sleep better."

Or sometimes it's even simpler: "I don't want to think about my back all the time."

That's the stuff that matters.

Getting better doesn't have to mean being completely pain-free or suddenly being able to do everything you used to do. Sometimes it's just being able to do the normal, everyday things without having to plan your life around how your body feels.

That's what we're working toward.

Because the goal isn't just to feel better. It's to be able to do more of the things that make your life yours.

Your MRI says you have a "bad disc." Or arthritis. Or degeneration. Maybe you were told that your neck or back is a mess.

I get why that can be disheartening. It's pretty easy to look at an imaging report and think, “Well, I guess this explains why I hurt. And I guess I'm just stuck with it.”

But imaging is really just a snapshot of what's going on in your body at that particular point in time. It doesn't tell us the whole story.

How long have you actually had that "bad disc"? Imaging can't tell us that. And while it may be contributing to your pain, it may not be the thing that's driving it.

That's why I like to know what your imaging says, but I don't want to focus too heavily on it. What I'm ultimately much more interested in is where your pain is, what it feels like, what makes it better or worse, what movements are affected, and what getting better would actually mean for you.

The imaging may never change. But focusing on what you're experiencing gives us a chance to change how you're feeling.

That's what I want to work on with you.

Maybe this can get better.

I know it can be hard to believe that when you've been hurting for a long time. Especially if you've already tried a few things and you're still hurting.

I'm not going to promise that you'll be at 100% or that you'll never hurt again. But can you feel better? Most definitely. Your body is capable of more than you realize.

And what if you could do that thing without hurting so much? That thing may be something very simple…and that’s okay.

Maybe it's just getting out of bed without hurting. Maybe it's walking a mile again. Riding your bike. Playing a round of golf. Working in your yard without having to pay for it later.

That's what we'll work toward together. We'll start where you are, figure out what's going on, and see what we can change.

Often the first step isn't convincing yourself that everything will be alright. It's usually just being willing to try something and find out.

Maybe you'll be surprised by what you can do.

One of the things I love most about what I do is getting to watch someone slowly get their life back.

A couple of weeks ago, I started working with a client who had been dealing with chronic lower back and hip pain. At her first session, her pain was sitting somewhere between an 8 and a 10 every day.

After her first session, she told me it had dropped to around a 3 or 4. After a couple of sessions, she was down to around a 1 or 2.

She recently shared this on her personal page, and I was incredibly touched by her words. With her permission, I'm sharing them here, too.

I never want to promise someone that I can make their pain disappear completely. Every person is different, and every body has its own story.

But when someone tells me they're nowhere near where they started, that they can do more, move better, or simply go hours without thinking about the pain that used to be on their mind all day, that's progress.

And that's what makes this work so meaningful to me.

I'm incredibly grateful that I get to be part of these journeys. ❤️

Progress doesn't always happen the way we expect. It often has peaks and valleys, twists and turns, and unexpected detours. That's true whether we're talking about personal growth, business, our careers, or getting better at a sport or hobby. This week reminded me that it's true for healing, too.

I had one client push their appointment back because they went back to a physically demanding job and... they were still feeling good.

Another, who's been dealing with chronic pain for a long time, was finally able to stretch his appointments farther apart because he's moving better and building strength again. That's exactly the outcome I hope for. The goal isn't for people to need me forever—it's to get them back to living their lives. And often, it's getting back to everyday activities, hobbies, workouts, and routines that keeps the momentum going.

I also had someone whose original shoulder pain improved, but a different area started bothering her. At first glance, that might sound discouraging. But sometimes, as one area calms down, another piece of the puzzle becomes easier to identify and treat.

Each of those stories looked different, but each one was a step in the right direction.

That's why I try not to judge healing by what happens in a single day or even a single appointment. I look at the overall trend. Are you moving better? Are you getting back to the activities you enjoy? Are you needing me less over time?

Those are the kinds of changes that matter most. It doesn't always look the way we expect, but when people are able to get back to living their lives, that's something worth celebrating.
