This is gonna be a hard post to write. And a hard one to read. Our church family has been praying for us over the last several hours and we feel ready to share what has happened.
Last night (Saturday) Kaitlyn was driving on I85 and was involved in a serious car accident. Details of the accident will be omitted in this post due to possible legal involvement. The four occupants of the other vehicle involved are stable, awake & the most serious injury among them is broken bones.
Kaitlyn is in stable but serious condition. DO NOT be misled by the word stable. She has a large laceration to the back of her head that required staples. She broke a rib & her scapula. She was without oxygen for an unknown period of time. Kaitlyn is in a coma, on a vent & has a very serious brain injury.
She had a procedure earlier today where an electrode was drilled into her skull so they could monitor her brain pressure. She has had an MRI and 2 CT scans. After a full assessment the trauma doctor told us that it has been his experience in young patients (she’s 25) with this type of brain injury that they take 3-6 months to wake up. My heart is absolutely crushed by the unknown that lies ahead.
Please pray for Kaitlyn. Pray for Kentrell; he came to the scene of the accident & saw his love being extricated & resuscitated. Kentrell had to call us & let us know what was happening…. and then the hospital Chaplain called me; we truly thought we were coming to the hospital to say good bye to our precious daughter.
But, God.
He is in the small details, the God winks, the love that has been given to us by our church family. The ability to sit here in ICU and watch as her chest rises and falls with the help of a machine.
Pray for Kaitlyn’s brothers (and their spouses/loving significant others) We have not been alone for one moment here in ICU. Each of her three brothers have come to the hospital.
Pray for Jeff & I as we navigate this scary, unknown, overwhelming territory. We pray God answers our prayers for a miracle. We know He loves Kaitlyn more than we ever could. He will use this for His glory. In his timing. We will be the buffalos running into the storm (totally a reference to a sermon that was given that completely changed my perspective on trials & ‘storms’ forever- my Crossroads peeps get this).
My God, I need you.
We are not in a position to turn away any help offered to us right now. This is the beginning of what is going to be a VERY long journey.

I’ve been trying to think how I could make a personal connection with people with the kids fighting to ‘get a life’ in the Dominican Republic. I’m still not sure how to do it. People connect with a natural disaster. People connect with starving or homeless kids. People connect with homeless or hungry animals. I don’t know how to help those more fortunate connect with these poverty stricken kids that are working their tails off to get to school in America so they can BREAK THE POVERTY CYCLE. Guys, these boys leave school at age 12 to help feed their families and get promises of becoming a Major League Baseball player from local scam artists…and end up back in poverty owing money to the scam artists. It. Is. Terrible. The The Baseball Island Foundation provides FREE education, teaches them English and finds full baseball scholarships for them to come to America to play ball and get a full education. These aren’t strangers to Ron and I. We. Know. These. Kids.
They are amazingly hard workers who desperately want to break the cycle.
Right now the two in the photo below need to get to Tulsa, OK. One has a single semester left to get a college degree. I know you might not realize how HUGE of a deal this is for kids in the DR, but it is. He will have a viable future-thus breaking the cycle.
WILL YOU PLEASE help me help them. Check your airline miles. Can you provide just one ticket from Santo Domingo to Tulsa, OK? Would you be willing to purchase a ticket? The Baseball Island Foundation is a registered nonprofit. Baseballisland.org These kids have a deadline of JANUARY 10th to get to college for their scholarships to be viable. I can put you in touch with the founder of BIF if you will please just help!! Ron and I will be returning March 2nd to do more work with them. Please help these kids!! If nothing else, share this post and tag anyone you know that might be willing. I can see the shares. I’d love to see all of you at least share for me! Out of over 1000 friends, someone is sitting on airline miles or will be led to help. I just know it!❤️❤️❤️❤️

Today M and I packed the gift bags for the chemotherapy patients for us to pass out next week!
Reminder: Please grab brightly colored blankets (new only please) while you’re Christmas shopping for the January blanket drive for the cancer infusion room patients at Paulding Hospital!! They can be dropped at Team Chiropractic during their open hours or I can meet you somewhere or they can be dropped in Acworth with Ron or mailed directly to me! Thanks everyone! ❤️

I am currently collecting new, brightly colored lap blankets for patients enduring chemotherapy in the infusion room at Paulding County Hospital. Blankets must be new.
(We choose bright colors to help liven up the atmosphere in there.)

RESULTS ARE IN……
I’m clean. Nothing in the scans!! Next scan is 6 months away. We have decided to leave the ovaries for now. That scary cancer antigen number result should be back tomorrow. Still dealing with whatever is happening in the girl bits. One step at a time, but clean scans is a stellar start. We go back for a port flush in 6 weeks right before Christmas. I did tangle with a new nurse, but that’s ok. She will learn. 😂
Aunt Meemaw provided these fabulous stress ball snowglobes for patients today. We had so much fun cheering everyone up! As usual nurses show up from strange places when we bring gifts! 🤣 The oncology unit is overrun with new patients. It’s heartbreaking.
I’m going to add some patient gifts in the Amazon list. If you so feel led to brighten the day of the cancer patients, please do!! It makes a huge difference. I finally found the patient I was looking for to give the blanket Emilee Turner quilted. She’s a very sick older lady that gasped when I gave it to her. I don’t know her story, but that hairless tooth filled grin as she cuddled it made me know we did the right thing. She’s in those trenches right now….fighting…for her life. A warrior that just needed to know she wasn’t fighting alone today. ❤️

💔 We just got word that the non profit in the Dominican Republic that was providing the meals for the kids we met at The Baseball Island Foundation (baseballisland.org) closed down- which means the kids aren’t getting their one meal a day with their schooling and practice. We all know hungry bellies can’t concentrate or play well. We found out the fee to feed them is right around $2500 American dollars per month to feed 40 kids. ☹️ This isn’t fancy food-we are talking protein, rice, greens once a day.
‼️Does anybody have any contacts that might be interested in helping to feed these kids?‼️ IT IS A REGISTERED NONPROFIT (tax deductible)!

Josiah started day 29 of consolidation … which surprised the doctors and Me! His counts for ANC were 130 when we left the hospital and needed tobe 750 to day to start treatment… THEY were 1500! Such a praise!

BASEBALL CLEATS (gently used is great!) in big boy (men) SIZES 9-11.5. Is anyone getting their kids new cleats soon that has a pair their kids no longer use? The baseballisland.org boys shoes are falling apart. They’re trying to train barefoot or in broken shoes.
