With great sorrow, we share the loss of Cooper Aerobics President & CEO Tyler C. Cooper, M.D., MPH, who passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 21, at the age of 55 after a nine-month battle with acute myeloid leukemia.
Dr. Cooper served on The Cooper Institute Board of Trustees for many years and was keenly interested in the research that changed practice, guidelines and policies that came from the institute. He continued his support of the Kenneth H. Cooper Institute after it moved to Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Oct. 2024 and was a tremendous advocate of our successes at TTUHSC.
Tyler followed in the footsteps of his father, Kenneth H. Cooper, M.D., MPH, as a preventive medicine physician, dedicated to helping people improve the quality and quantity of their lives. He is remembered as a compassionate physician and leader who believed in meeting people where they were as well as giving grace to help them improve their health and live longer, more productive lives.
Dr. Cooper practiced what he preached — his love and enthusiasm for the outdoors and extreme adventures resulted in mountain climbing on all seven continents and summiting all 74 14,000-ft. mountains in the contiguous United States. He enjoyed backcountry snow skiing, climbing, and surfing throughout the world.
This loss is felt deeply by the Kenneth H. Cooper Institute, Cooper Clinic and Cooper Aerobics teams. We offer our condolences to Tyler’s wife, Angie, and their three children, Dr. & Mrs. Kenneth Cooper and his sister Berkley and her family.
