✨ Birth Affirmations ✨

My body knows what to do.
I trust my body.
I trust my baby.
I am safe, supported, and capable.
With every breath, I soften and release.
I welcome each wave with strength and patience.
My baby and I are working together.
I can do this one breath, one moment, one wave at a time. 🤍

I am strong. I am powerful. I am ready to meet my baby. 🌿✨

Newborn life in one sentence: "Wait, when did she last eat?" 😅

Feeds, diapers, naps, repeat. When you're running on no sleep, it's nearly impossible to remember if the last feed was 2 hours ago or 4.
Newborn tracker apps make it simple:
🍼 Log feeds (breast, bottle, or both) in one tap
💩 Track wet and dirty diapers
😴 Record sleep and wake times
⏰ Get reminders for the next feed
📊 Share easy summaries with your pediatrician and your partner

Some great apps are:
- Nara baby
- Baby tracker
- Baby Daybook
- Sprout baby
- Baby Connect
- Huckleberry

No more notes on your phone or guessing at 3 AM. Everyone caring for baby stays on the same page.

As a small, community based midwifery practice, recognition like this means a lot. Most families find us because another mother shared her experience, recommended us, or trusted us enough to send someone they love our way.

If we’ve cared for you during pregnancy, birth, postpartum or welcomed more than one of your babies, we’d be honored to have your vote! 🩵

Thank you for trusting us with some of the biggest moments of your lives. 💜

🍼 How to Know If Your Baby Is Getting Enough Milk
One of the biggest worries for new parents (especially breastfeeding ones) is my baby actually getting enough?

💧 Diaper count is your best clue By day 5+, expect roughly 6+ wet diapers and 3-4+ soft, yellow poops a day.

⚖️ Steady weight gain Some weight loss right after birth is normal, but babies typically regain it by 2 weeks and then gain steadily after that. Your pediatrician tracks this at checkups.

😌 Content after feeds A baby who seems relaxed, satisfied, and sleepy after eating (not frantic or still rooting around) is a good sign.

👂 Audible swallowing You should be able to hear or see rhythmic sucking and swallowing during feeds, not just quick flutters.

🌙 Normal sleep/wake pattern Feeding roughly 8-12 times in 24 hours (for newborns) with reasonable wake windows is typical.

🩺 Regular checkups Your pediatrician's growth chart is the most reliable, objective measure, trust it over comparing to other babies.

🚩 When to reach out to your doctor. Fewer wet diapers than expected, no weight gain, extreme fussiness at the breast/bottle, or a baby who seems lethargic are all reasons to check in sooner rather than later.

Feeding a baby can feel like a guessing game some days these signs help take the guesswork out of it. 💛
Not medical advice, always check with your pediatrician or a lactation consultant with feeding concerns.

🎀 October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month 🎀

As midwives, we care for women through some of life’s most important moments pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and beyond. But our commitment to women’s health doesn’t end after the birth of a baby. 💗

This month, we’re encouraging all women to know their bodies, keep up with recommended breast health screenings, and speak with their healthcare provider about any changes or concerns.

Early detection can make a meaningful difference. Take a moment this month to prioritize you because caring for yourself is an important part of caring for the ones you love. 🌸

🎀 Know your body. Know your risk. Get your screenings.
We’re standing with every woman affected by breast cancer survivors, those currently fighting, and the families who walk beside them.

With love from your midwives,
💗 Jenn & Elizabeth

🤱 How to Handle Engorgement Discomfort
That rock-hard, full, achy feeling when your milk comes in is no joke. Here's some relief that actually helps:

🧊 Cold compresses after feeding Ice packs (or a bag of frozen peas) help reduce swelling and calm inflammation.

🚿 Warm compress or shower before feeding Warmth for a few minutes right before nursing/pumping can help milk flow more easily.

🤲 Hand express a little, not a lot If you're overfull, expressing just enough to feel comfortable can help but pumping/expressing too much can signal your body to make even more milk.

⏰ Feed on demand, early and often Frequent nursing/pumping (roughly every 2–3 hours) helps prevent engorgement from building up in the first place.

🔄 Change positions Different nursing holds can help drain different parts of the breast more evenly.

🚨 Watch for red flags Fever, red/hot patches, or a lump that won't budge could mean a clogged duct or mastitis that's a "call your doctor or lactation consultant" moment, not a wait-it-out one.

You're doing great. This part is temporary, even when it doesn't feel like it. 💛
Not medical advice, always check with your doctor or a lactation consultant for guidance specific to you.

🥦 How to Eat More Vegetables During Pregnancy
Growing a tiny human is hard work — and veggies are some of your best allies for energy, digestion, and getting key nutrients like folate, fiber, and vitamin A. Here's how to sneak more in, even on the days when nothing sounds good:

🥕 Blend it in Smoothies hide spinach and kale shockingly well. You'll taste the fruit, not the greens.

🍝 Upgrade your favorites Add shredded zucchini or carrots to pasta sauce, chili, or meatloaf.

🍲 Soup it up A big pot of veggie-loaded soup makes eating (and reheating) easy on nauseous days.

🧂 Season generously Roasted veggies with olive oil, garlic, and a little salt taste nothing like sad steamed broccoli.

🍿 Snack smart Keep cut veggies + hummus or ranch at eye level in the fridge so they're the easy grab.

🌈 Go for color, not perfection Different colored veggies = different nutrients. Aim for variety over volume.

🤰 Some days will be a no. Food aversions are real and valid. Do what you can, when you can, that's enough.

Small swaps add up. Your body (and baby) will thank you. 💚

👶 How to Decide the Best Time to Have Another Baby
Thinking about growing your family again? There's no "perfect" moment but there are smart things to check in on before you decide. Here's a quick gut-check:

💛 Emotional readiness Are you (and your partner) feeling recovered, excited, and not just going through the motions?

💰 Financial footing Childcare, healthcare, space does the budget have room to stretch?

🩺 Physical health If you carried a pregnancy before, how's your recovery? Many doctors suggest waiting at least 18 months between births.

👨‍👩‍👧 Age gap goals Want your kids close in age to be built-in playmates? Or more space so you can focus on one at a time? Both have upsides.

🧠 Support system Who's around to help with sleepless nights, school pickups, and the chaos in between?

⏳ The "right" time is personal Not your sister's timeline. Not your Instagram feed's timeline. Yours.

There's no universal formula, just the moment that feels right for your family. 💫

👶🛞 How to Choose the Right Stroller for Your Family

A stroller is more than just a place for your baby to sit — it’s something you’ll likely use a lot. So how do you choose the right one?
Before you buy, think about these 5 things:

✨ 1. Your lifestyle
City walks, suburban errands, travel, or lots of outdoor adventures? Choose a stroller that fits where you actually spend your time.

✨ 2. Size & storage
Will it fit easily in your car? Can you lift it comfortably? Don’t forget to consider your home storage space, too!

✨ 3. Maneuverability
Test the stroller in person if possible. Can you turn it easily with one hand? Does it handle the surfaces you’ll use most?

✨ 4. Your growing family
Planning for another baby? Consider whether you might want a stroller that can accommodate a second child or a car seat.

✨ 5. Comfort & safety
Look for a secure harness, good brakes, appropriate recline options, sun protection, and a comfortable seat for your little one.

💡 Pro tip: Don’t choose a stroller based only on how it looks. Imagine using it while carrying a diaper bag, holding your coffee, navigating a doorway, or getting it into the car after a long day. 😅

The “best” stroller isn’t necessarily the most expensive one — it’s the one that makes your family’s everyday life easier. ❤️

🌿 Pain Relief & Physiological Birth: What’s the Connection?

Choosing pain relief during labor doesn’t mean you’ve “failed” at having a physiological birth. But different medications can influence how labor feels and progresses.

💨 Nitrous oxide: Usually keeps you alert and mobile, with relatively little effect on contractions or pushing.

💊 Opioids: Can reduce pain but may cause drowsiness, nausea, or dizziness. If given close to birth, they can cross the placenta and temporarily affect your baby’s breathing or alertness.

💉 Epidural: Provides the most effective pain relief, but can reduce sensation and mobility. It may also involve IV fluids, continuous monitoring, and sometimes a urinary catheter. Pushing can feel different when sensation is reduced.

🌸 Non-medication comfort measures: Movement, breathing, massage, water, position changes, and support can help manage discomfort while generally allowing you to stay mobile and work with your body’s natural labor process.

✨ The key takeaway: Pain medication doesn’t automatically mean you’ll need an intervention or a cesarean birth. Many people have spontaneous vaginal births with pain relief. The impact depends on the medication, timing, dose, and your individual labor.

There’s no “right” way to give birth. Understanding your options allows you to make informed choices that feel right for you. 🤍
