Pain control matters.

But what happens next?

Can the resident participate more fully in therapy? Has mobility improved? Are there additional functional barriers limiting progress? Is the clinical team looking beyond the symptom to understand the bigger rehabilitation picture?

That's where Physiatry can change the conversation.

Physiatrists specialize in physical medicine and rehabilitation, with a focus on function and helping patients achieve their highest possible level of independence.

In the post-acute setting, that perspective can be an important part of the interdisciplinary care team.

The goal isn't simply less pain. It's better function whenever possible.

Is your Pain Management provider managing medications—or looking at the whole patient?

Pain doesn't exist in isolation.

It can affect mobility.

Function.

Sleep.

Therapy participation.

Quality of life.

And the resident's overall progress.

That's why effective pain management should look beyond the medication list.

At Paragon, our approach brings Pain Management and Physiatry together with the larger interdisciplinary team to help identify what's standing between the resident and better function.

Because treating pain is important.

Understanding what that pain is preventing the resident from doing matters, too.

How often does your provider round?

It's an important question—but it shouldn't be the only one.

Consider asking:

Are they responsive when your team needs them?

Are they communicating with nursing and therapy?

Are they identifying barriers affecting the resident's care?

When they identify a problem, are they following through?

Are they providing meaningful clinical value with each encounter?

Quality isn't defined by simply counting visits.

The better question is: What happens because your provider was there?

Your provider rounds.

But is your provider truly showing up for your facility?

There's a difference.

A clinical partner should do more than complete a visit and move on to the next resident. They should communicate with your team, understand the challenges your residents are facing, respond when concerns arise, collaborate across disciplines, and follow through.

Ask yourself:

Does your current provider feel like an extension of your team—or another service your team has to manage?

Throughout October, we're challenging facilities to ask better questions about their Pain Management & Physiatry partnerships.

Because your residents—and your staff—deserve more than "good enough."

Meet Debbie, our Director of Business Development! 👋

Debbie's role goes far beyond introducing facilities to Paragon. She's out in the market building relationships, listening to the needs of administrators and clinical teams, and helping facilities understand what's possible when their specialty provider operates as a true extension of their team.

And there's one question we're going to be asking a lot this month:

Is your Pain Management & Physiatry provider doing enough?

Because simply showing up to round isn't the same thing as being a clinical partner.

Throughout October, we'll be breaking down what facilities should expect from a high-quality Pain Management & Physiatry partnership—and the questions worth asking about the care your residents currently receive.

Your residents deserve exceptional care.

Your team deserves an exceptional partner.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. 🎀

This month, we recognize those currently fighting breast cancer, celebrate survivors, remember those we've lost, and stand alongside the families and caregivers supporting them every step of the way.

We also encourage everyone to stay informed, know their individual risk factors, and talk with their healthcare provider about appropriate screening.

Together, we wear pink. 💗

Tomorrow kicks off National Physical Therapy Month! 💪

Throughout October, we're proud to recognize the physical therapists who help residents rebuild strength, improve mobility, regain independence, and work toward meaningful functional goals every day.

At Paragon, we know great rehabilitation doesn't happen in a silo.

When therapy, nursing, Physiatry, and Pain Management communicate and work together, barriers to participation can be identified and addressed as part of the resident's overall plan of care.

To the PTs working alongside residents through every step, every transfer, and every milestone—this month, we celebrate you! 💙

Behind every great outcome is a team working together. 💙

In post-acute care, no one does it alone. Nursing notices the change. Therapy identifies functional barriers. Providers evaluate what may be contributing. Care Coordinators help keep communication moving. Facility teams bring it all together—with the resident at the center of every decision.

Different roles. Different expertise. One shared goal: helping residents achieve the best possible function, comfort, and quality of life.

At Paragon, we’re proud to work alongside our facility partners as an extension of their care teams—bringing Physiatry, Pain Management, and Addiction Medicine together with the people who know their residents best.

🤝 Strong outcomes start with strong partnerships.
