If your child has a baby tooth with decay that reaches the nerve, a pulpotomy might be the answer. ๐Ÿฆท

A pulpotomy is a gentle procedure where we remove the part of the tooth's nerve that's infected and seal the rest. Unlike extracting the tooth, a pulpotomy preserves it so it can stay in place holding space for the permanent tooth coming in. No drilling deep into the tooth, just focused treatment of the problem area.

It's one of those procedures that sounds more complicated than it actually is. Many kids do really well with it, and it saves the tooth while relieving pain and infection.

If a cavity has gotten deep and we need to talk about options, we'll explain pulpotomy as one possibility and walk through what it means and why it might be the best choice for your child's situation.

When you can feel how much a team loves what they do, it changes everything. ๐Ÿ’™

That's not something you can fake. Kids know it. Parents know it. And Amanda picked up on what makes our team special: we genuinely care about what we're doing here. Kind, accommodating, and showing up that way every single day because we actually love it.

Thank you for noticing that, Amanda. That care is the whole point.

Things I wish more parents knew as a pediatric dentist. ๐Ÿ’™

Being a pediatric dentist means I get to see what actually works. Swipe through for five things that would change everything if more families understood them from the start.

You're doing better than you think. We're here to help with the rest.

Gummy vitamins are convenient and kids actually take them without a fight. But there's something you should know about how they affect teeth. ๐Ÿฌ

Gummy vitamins are sticky and they contain sugars (even if they say sugar-free, sugar alcohols feed cavity-causing bacteria). When your child chews a gummy vitamin, it sticks to their teeth and the sugar sits there, feeding the bacteria that cause cavities. Unlike a meal where there's saliva washing things away, a vitamin lingers.

This doesn't mean you can't give gummy vitamins, it just means being intentional about it. Give them with a meal rather than as a standalone snack, have your child drink water and brush their teeth after, or consider switching to a chewable tablet or liquid vitamin instead.

If you're giving gummy vitamins, the timing and what happens after matters way more than just whether you're giving them at all.

Questions about your child's vitamin routine? Ask us at your next visit.

Some babies are born with a tight band of tissue under the tongue or lip that restricts movement. This is called a tongue tie or lip tie, and it can affect feeding, speech, and later dental development. ๐Ÿ‘ถ

A tight frenulum might make it hard for a baby to latch while nursing or bottle feeding. Later, it can affect how teeth come in and how the mouth develops. Some kids need a frenectomy, a simple procedure where we release that tight tissue so everything can develop more freely.

If you notice your baby having trouble feeding, or if your child has a short frenulum under their lip or tongue that seems to limit movement, bring it up at your child's visit. We can evaluate whether a frenectomy would help.

It's one of those things that's easy to miss, but early intervention can make a big difference.

Not every dental problem can wait for a regular appointment, and we get that. ๐Ÿšจ

Same day emergency appointments are often available, and if your child has a true dental emergency outside of office hours, Dr. Josh's number is in our voicemail so you can reach him.

What counts as a dental emergency? A tooth that's been knocked out or badly broken. Severe pain. A tooth that's loose but shouldn't be. Significant swelling. Trauma from a fall or accident. If you're not sure whether something is urgent, call us and describe what happened. We can help you figure out the next best step.

The goal is always to preserve the tooth and get your child comfortable as quickly as possible. We've got you.

If you're in the thick of teething with a little one, we see you. ๐Ÿ‘ถ

Teething is tough. Sore gums, drool, chewing on everything. The good news is there are things that help. Cold (not frozen) teething rings, clean wet gauze to rub the gums gently, and sometimes just knowing that every baby goes through this and comes out fine on the other side.

Once those first teeth do start coming in, that's the perfect time to start thinking about that first dental visit. Around age one or within six months of that first tooth, bring your little one in so we can make sure everything is developing normally and you know how to care for those brand new teeth at home.

Teething is a milestone, and so is that first dental visit. We're here for both.

Fabulous is the word, Joy. ๐ŸŒŸ

When a whole office is firing on all cylinders, it's because someone at the top (thank you, Dr. Rabbit) has built a team that knows exactly what they're doing and actually wants to be there. That energy carries through every single appointment.

We're so appreciative of your kind words and so grateful to get to care for your family.

Brushing with fluoride toothpaste at home is great. Professional fluoride treatments are another level. โœจ

We apply a concentrated fluoride treatment during your child's cleaning appointment. It strengthens the enamel and gives extra protection against cavities, especially helpful for kids who are prone to decay or have just had new molars come in.

It takes just a minute, there's no pain involved, and the benefits are real. Many kids actually like the flavor, and they leave knowing their teeth got a serious boost.

If your child hasn't had a professional fluoride treatment recently, ask us about it at your next visit. We can talk through whether it makes sense for your child's individual needs.

Happy World Smile Day! ๐Ÿ˜†

Today we celebrate smiles in all their forms. Every smile is different. Some are big and toothy, some are shy, some are missing a few teeth, some are still getting used to new brackets or a lost tooth. The thing they all have in common? They deserve to be healthy, confident, and cared for.

At DPD, we get to see smiles every single day. We see the nervous ones turn brave. We see the first tooth come in and the last baby tooth go out. We watch kids grow and change and learn to love their smile.

Thank you for trusting us to be part of your family's smile journey. It means everything.
