I almost stopped leaving the house.

Not because I couldn’t walk.

Because I didn’t want people looking at me.

72 years old. Three grandkids under 10.

They don’t walk.
They run.

Last summer I noticed something.

I was the one saying,
“You guys go ahead.”

At the park.
At the zoo.
Even in my own backyard.

My prosthetic didn’t hurt exactly.
It just didn’t feel right.

By afternoon I’d added another sock.
By dinner I was worn out.

I told myself,
“You’re 72. Slow down.”

But it wasn’t my age.

It was the fit.

My daughter said,

• misalignment
• uneven weight distribution

Most amputees were never told this.

Pain is not normal.

If your prosthetic rubs, pinches, slips, or causes sore spots, that is not something you are supposed to “get used to.”

It usually means the socket or materials are not right for your body.

We see amputees every week who were given low quality builds and told the discomfort was just part of life.

It is not.
