OSMA joined Governor Mike DeWine and fellow physician advocates for the ceremonial signing of SB 162, an insurer takeback reform we helped pass through the legislature to become law.

Now in effect, the law generally reduces the takeback window from two years to one and gives practices more time to challenge repayment demands.

“That stability allows physicians to plan responsibly, invest in their practices, and focus their resources where they belong — caring for patients,” said OSMA President Dr. Gary Katz

Medical students, residents, and fellows: ready to present your urology research?

The Ohio Urological Society is accepting abstracts for its 2027 Annual Meeting, February 5–6 at the Hilton Columbus Downtown.

• Moderated poster presentations, with the top three abstracts selected for podium presentations
• Maximum 350 words and two abstracts per presenter
• Accepted presenters must attend in person

Submit by Sunday, November 15, 2026.

An advocacy win led by Ohio State Medical Association: stronger protections against insurer takebacks.

Effective October 7, Ohio’s SB 162:
• Generally reduces the takeback window from 2 years to 1 year after payment.
• Gives practices 60 days instead of 30 to respond to an overpayment notice.
• Prohibits fees for appealing an overpayment determination.

These protections apply to payments covered by Ohio law. The fraud exception remains.
