🐮 HOLY COW—LOOK WHO CAME TO WESTVIEW! 💙

What recent Westview Health Care Center visitor had four legs, an aMOOOsing personality, and wore black-and-white all over?

Meet Ollie the Calf, who stopped by at the tail end of summer. Ollie hoofed it (well, rode quite comfortably!) all the way from Breezy Hill Farm in Pomfret, CT, along with his human farm family. Sophia, a member of Westview's Therapeutic Recreation staff, helped arrange this delightful visit with her sister Julia to bring a few surprise smiles to our residents and patients.

Outside on Westview's recreation patio, Ollie made his rounds from table to table, proving himself to be a remarkably well-behaved little bovine buddy. Residents and patients enjoyed individual moments with their special guest, gently petting his soft coat and occasionally receiving a surprise lick in return! His uplifting presence soon attracted staff members from departments throughout Westview. Everyone eagerly greeted our young four-legged friend.

Ollie is quite the colorful character despite his monochrome presentation! He proved to be a natural in front of the camera, frequently turning his head at just the right moment to offer his best angle. Ever the considerate visitor, Ollie even arrived wearing his own specially fashioned protective brief—a precaution our Westview team could certainly appreciate!

Everywhere Ollie walked, smiles and sunlight shined. Between the gentle greetings, curious expressions, affectionate licks, and plenty of picture-perfect poses, Ollie spread joy.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Ollie, Sophia, Julia, and Breezy Hill Farm for sharing this little bright spot with our Westview community. ☀️🐄💙

The annual Westview Employee Recognition Dinner honors the extra efforts and empathy behind the good work that happens throughout the year, across all facilities on our campus. This cross-organizational celebration brings together staff members from Westview Health Care Center, Westview Outpatient & Aquatic Therapy, Westview Health Care Center- Sports Medicine, Country Living at Westview Commons, and Westview Child Care Center for a special evening dedicated to their achievements.

This year’s revels were held in the accommodating country setting of Grill 37’s banquet space in Pomfret Center, CT. The gathering reception saw the distinguished guests of Westview’s “Class of 2026” assemble in formal fashion. There is a fun juxtaposition that occurs on this particular evening each year: everyone is dressed delightfully dapper, coordinated quite intentionally—yet the conversations among coworkers become decidedly more casual and relaxed across otherwise unrelated department personnel.

This celebrated assemblage of close colleagues is more accustomed to seeing one another in scrubs, uniforms, professional attire, smocks, and outdoor blizzard gear; working together in care settings, therapy spaces, residences, classrooms, dining areas, and kitchens. On this special evening, together they share a fine-dining occasion as the VIPs.

The guest list is informed by individual recognitions, peer-based merits, and breadth of tenure across Westview’s Dayville, CT campus of wellness. Honorees earn a place at the table through recognition as an Employee of the Month during the previous year, perfect attendance in their role, tallies of “WOW Cards”—Westview’s merit system through which coworkers and patient family members can recognize exceptional individual efforts—and years of service celebrated at five-year milestones.

Westview’s honored guests made their way to their tables; each arranged with individual name cards at every seat and Westview-produced trifold programs identifying all of the people present and their respective distinctions. Prior to the engagement, guests selected their main course from four offerings including beef, chicken, seafood, and vegetarian fare. Following the meal service, the assembly entered into the programming portion of their gathering.

Westview Administrator and Executive Vice President David T. Panteleakos spoke from the center of the room, thanking everyone for the successes of the previous year and highlighting the hopes and ambitions that illuminate the year forward. To share in delivering individual recognitions, Mr. Panteleakos welcomed Westview Assistant Administrator Katy Holzer to the podium as an additional presenter. Warm congratulations followed each honoree to the front of the room as they collected the hardware and ephemera signifying each recognition, hearing their name called across a chorus of cheering and clapping.

Mr. Panteleakos resumed his role as emcee for the portion of the honors devoted to Employees of the Month and those marking a significant point in their years of service. For the four individuals heralded for 25 years of dedicated work within the organization, especially loud praise among peers and sterling recognition by the Westview family of facilities was bestowed. Meghan Miller, Jean Laflamme, Jeff Pycko, and David T. Panteleakos each received a personalized clock to commemorate this quarter-century of dedication to Westview. Moments prior to the conclusion of this part of the presentation, Jeff Pycko commandeered the microphone to ensure that David T. Panteleakos received the same individual moment of recognition that he caringly presents for all others.

The marquee award of this evening arrives in the announcement of Westview’s Employee of the Year. Westview is now an organizational family spanning multiple unique care offerings across a campus of three dedicated facilities, with numerous candidates and considerations every year. This is a testament to the selfless, hard-working, enduringly-smiling staff who compose our Westview family. Gathered among colleagues and friends, Shivanie Staples heard her name light up the room as the 2026 Westview Employee of the Year. Mrs. Staples, Billing and Receivables Coordinator at Westview, showed genuine surprise as cheers and congratulations accompanied the award presentation.

The biggest reason we can all smile on our faces on this particular evening is because we smile on our hearts all year long. We know the caring connections, reclaimed abilities, new experiences, and trusting partnerships that we can offer to our patients, residents, students, families, and guests throughout the year and across generations. Each one among us takes pride in trying to be a little bit of the sunshine that brightens someone else’s day.

We shared plenty of reasons to smile last week as Westview’s annual Employee Appreciation Week celebrated the dedicated people who make our organization such a special place to work, learn, heal, and grow!

Throughout the multi-facility campus of Westview Health Care Center, Westview Outpatient & Aquatic Therapy, Westview Sports Medicine, Country Living at Westview Commons, and Westview Child Care Center, our cohesive team works together. We are grateful for the health care professionals, therapists, dietary staff, support services, administrative personnel, educators, and specialists who help us to instill pride in our work. Our responsibilities may differ from one setting to the next, but our efforts work in concert all year long to provide the best experiences possible for our residents, patients, clients, and students.

Food provided one of the week's first highlights, with pizza parties held at Westview Health Care Center, Country Living at Westview Commons, and Westview Child Care Center. Riverside Pizza of Putnam, CT handled these grand-scale orders, while the in-house Dietary Departments at Westview and Westview Commons supplemented the lunchtime spreads with ample salads, side dishes, and beverages for their fellow staff members.

Employee Appreciation Week bonuses were distributed and prize raffles offered chances to win an assortment of gift cards to local businesses and online shops. Another anticipated tradition is Westview's Employee Appreciation Week shirt—this year featuring a unique, patriotic design for our team to proudly sport around the region.

Amid all the fun and fanfare, Wednesday evening provided a ceremonial centerpiece of the week: Westview's annual Employee Appreciation Dinner at Grill 37 in Pomfret Center, CT. An elegant night of awards and gourmet dining gathered staff members from across the organization to celebrate years of service, peer recognition, and individual merit. Among the evening's highest honors, Billing Supervisor Shivanie Staples was named Westview's 2026 Employee of the Year, earning enthusiastic applause from her assembled colleagues.

As the week neared its conclusion, smiles continued. Visits from the CT Soft Serve Ice Cream Truck and Carly's Critters brought a little bit of the county fair experience to Westview. To a backdrop of pleasant, late-summer weather, these moments outside offered our hardworking staff opportunities to step away, enjoy a treat, and share a few laughs.

Through five days of food, prizes, recognition, celebration, and camaraderie, the care considerations for Westview's residents, patients, clients, and students never wavered. Between all the fun, it was just as easy to witness the outstanding personal passion each member of our team brings to their work every day.

Employee Appreciation Week gives us many ways to say THANK YOU, but it also provides a welcome reminder of what we know throughout the entire year: Westview teammates can lean on each other. Westview Administrator David T. Panteleakos sees the fun moments of Employee Appreciation Week as a concentrated expression of the appreciation felt throughout Westview all year long.

“The loyalty, camaraderie, and commitment we see within our staff of health care professionals, teachers, and support staff all year long is vital to our success. Our strongly bonded team form the foundation where we build Westview’s creed: ‘Excellent Care, Outstanding Staff, Distinct Reputation.’ To the entire Westview team, THANK YOU for all of the individual efforts working together towards our ultimate goals!”

Captured here are a few of the sterling smiles scattered across the Westview campus during a week devoted to the people behind them.

🐴💙 Sometimes the smallest visitors leave the biggest smiles.

Dani the Miniature Horse recently stopped by Westview Health Care Center; bringing plenty of gentle moments, warm smiles, and happy conversations. With a calming spirit and a patient heart, Dani made it easy for our residents and patients to enjoy a special visit up close.

Dani is a familiar friend at Westview. She hails from Cherry Ledge Farm in Woodstock, CT, and is always accompanied by her devoted “Agent"—better known as her Owner—Karen L. Swanberg. Through Cherry Ledge Farm's Minis Helping Many program, Dani shares the gift of emotional pet therapy with children, older adults, and veterans throughout the region and on-site at their farmstead. We are always grateful when Dani’s happy, horsey travels lead her back to Westview!

The visit began on a heartfelt note as Karen, her mother, and Dani spent time visiting Karen's father in Westview's skilled care setting and made their way back through the halls to build a few new friendships. Outside, a large gathering of patients, residents, family members, guests, and staff members enjoyed an ice cream social on Westview’s Recreation Patio while eagerly awaiting their four-hoofed guest.

As always, Dani was the picture of patience: happily standing for one-on-one visits, posing for countless photos, and even sharing a few affectionate smooches with her adoring fans. Her gentle presence has a remarkable way of bringing people together, creating moments of connection, conversation, and joy that linger long after her visit comes to an end.

Thank you to Karen Swanberg and the whole team at Cherry Ledge Farm for continuing to share Dani with our Westview family. 💙
