Alice donated her kidney to a complete stranger. Read her story below and join our Potential Living Donor Database at the link in our bio!

Help a complete stranger for the common good. ✅✅✅ Done.

In 2008, I went to the movies with a girlfriend and saw the movie, Bucket list. In the movie, Carter Chambers (Morgan Freeman) was terminal with cancer and wrote out a list of things he wanted to do before he “kicked the bucket”. A few days later I made my own list and I am happy to say I have checked off a few good ones so far. 😉

A few years ago, I went back to review Carter Chambers' list. His #2 on the list: Help a complete stranger for the common good. “What on earth does that mean? How can this be something you can check off as a life-changing experience????"

Today, I helped a stranger for the common good. I donated life. I am proud to say I changed the ending to someone’s story. ✅✅

FDA greenlights COVID-19 booster vaccine for some immunocompromised patients

"FDA’s approval of the third COVID-19 vaccine dose is excellent news for organ transplant recipients," Anastasia Henry, Executive Director of the American Transplant Foundation, told Fox News. "This is definitely a needed step to ensure transplant recipients are protected. Transplant patients are excited about this option."

The FDA authorized a COVID-19 booster shot for certain immunocompromised patients after evidence indicated a weak immune response following the initial two-dose series.

Tabula loved her job as a postal service worker, but could no longer work once she had to be put on dialysis. After finally receiving a kidney transplant, Tabula was left unemployed and unable to afford her anti-rejection medications while she searched for new employment. The American Transplant Foundation helped her maintain coverage and focus on recovery.

Malek was pursuing a career in HVAC when, one day, he suddenly suffered liver failure and went into a coma. After luckily finding a liver donor, Malek was forced to shift career paths.

Because he received a transplant during the pandemic, Malek was forced to stay at home and could not make any money to maintain care. The American Transplant Foundation's Emergency Grant helped Malek afford his medications and therefore maintain his health and prevent his new liver from failing.

Meet Kiven. After being laid off earlier this year from his job as a truck driver due to his heart condition, Kiven, his wife, and his 7 month old child were left with no income.

After receiving his heart transplant in April, Kiven and his family could not afford to relocate to Houston to receive post-transplant care. With the help of our Emergency Grant, they were able to afford transportation in order for Kiven to receive the care he needs.

This Team Transplant Duo is back at it again!

Scott donated his kidney to Jim in 2017- and the two have been unstoppable ever since. Raising awareness and funds for the most vulnerable transplant recipients and living donors, mentoring others through our 1+1=LIFE Mentorship Program, and not to mention riding 60 miles this past weekend for Team Transplant, they have changed the lives of many!

Thanks to Jim and Scott for all they do for the transplant community and American Transplant Foundation!

Check out this story shared by @UnitedNetworkForOrganSharing!!

Lane has a kidney that is nearly 101 years old. Lane's mother Evelyn donated a kidney to her son in 1971. Lane was 24 and his mother was 50. Now 74 years old, Lane is likely in possession of one of the longest-surviving transplanted kidneys in the world.

When he was told that he would be a good candidate for a transplant, physicians turned to Lane's immediate family for a kidney donation. "My mom was the best match for blood type and tissue type. And she was the most willing one, like moms are."

Lane hasn't had any restrictions, physical or dietary over the years and lived and worked on the family ranch until the 1980s. He has since opened a one-man sawmill, made wooden furniture, and traveled the world

Cecil Lockhart, who passed away on May 4 at the age of 95, is the oldest organ donor in the United States 👈🏻 🥰!

He was inspired to be an organ donor when his son healed 75 lives through his tissue and cornea donations after his passing in 2010. Cecil was a WWII Army Corporal and coal miner for 50 years and was known for always helping people and he continued to do so even after his passing, his son-in-law said.

Should People With Immune Problems Get Third Vaccine Doses? France is handing out third shots of the two-dose vaccines to cancer patients and others with immune system impairments. In the United States, patients like these are on their own.
My friend’s son’s kidney donor backed out at the last minute and he is not a candidate for dialysis due to I believe his platelets count. He is category 5. He has recently been put on a transplant list through his doctor. We got in touch with a few churches who will make a request for a donor, but I would like to know if there is a list he can be put on to request a living donor or if there is such a thing. Any help would be truly appreciated at this time of desperation. Thank you.

Today is a great day to #5KAnyWay. I'd love to hear how everyone is competing. I'll be starting my 108 sun salutations today to fulfill my #wtg2021 5K.
"Anyone else tune in for the #5KAnyWay Coffee Chat with former U.S. Surgeon General, Dr. Moritsugu? He himself is a part of the transplant community, as a donor a family member. ""It's important to advocate for organ donation as much as it is to advocate for organ transplantation."" What was your biggest takeaway from his chat? Hi everyone! I'm MJ! I'm excited because today marks the first day of World Transplant Games 2021 #5KAnyWay! I'll be completing my 5K by yoga (108 sun salutations). I'm curious how everyone from American Transplant Foundation & Team USA will be competing?
I have a question please. What must a person's MELD score be to qualify for a Live Donor Transplant?
The MELD score needs adjusting! It is not a perfect system but it determines where you are on the liver transplant list. For those with low MELDS due to PSC and PBC but in desperate need of a liver are having to wait and wait until something potentially life threatening happens. Please sign and comment on my petition requesting exception points for PSC and PBC. We now have more than 5300 signatures which got the attention of the CEO of UNOS. The new Acuity Circle rules for Liver Allocation is making the "SCORE MATTER MORE" which is hurting many people with progressive diseases who suffer for years with Low MELDS. Thank you for reading, digesting, signing and sharing!
Jim Eastman, Scott La Point (pictured) and Steve Crider are gearing up (literally and figuratively) to ride and raise needed monies for the American Transplant Foundation in October. Even though the Elephant Rock Cycling Festival was cancelled, this trio is staying in shape and will hit the road sometime in mid-October, all in the name of organ donation. Please be on the lookout for their emails requesting donations (financial ones), and help if you can!
