Making a sleep change does not have to mean putting your baby in a crib and leaving them alone to cry. There are so many gradual, supportive and parent-present approaches to independent sleep, and I love to help families through it! I really love floor beds for babies that have been used to co sleeping for months or years.

If your ready for a change but a super traditional sleep training approach doesn’t feel right or another consultant has told you your baby “needs” to be in a crib, I’m here to offer alternative and individualized solutions to sleep that work for your child and feel good on your heart. ❤️

This is why the person with b***s disappearing for 5 nights is not my favorite weaning strategy. If you have the capacity, I usually recommend the nursing parent take the lead right from the start. Your little one is also likely going to be upset that you are not sleeping in the room with them and may cry for a few nights anyway to get you back in the room. A nursing parent setting the boundaries usually means less overall crying and quicker acceptance of the new way. 💛

Of course every toddler and family is different but this is the trend I see from working with families every day.

If you need help with the weaning process, I gotchu! And you can still stay co sleeping if you love it. 🤗

Cosleeping often isn’t just a short season, unless you decide it is and initiate the change.

That’s why advice like “they’ll grow out of it” or “just snuggle them while you can” can feel really unhelpful when you’re a parent who is struggling with your sleep setup.

Because often it does go on for years, and you’re allowed to want something different without feeling like you’re doing something wrong.

And, changing how your child sleeps doesn’t have to mean suddenly leaving them alone to figure it out.

For babies, you can stay present with them while they learn a new way of falling asleep.

For toddlers and young children, you can help wean away from needing your presence to sleep while offering lots of support- Frequent check-ins, connection building activities, and doing preparatory daytime work to build their confidence can all be part of the process.

You can support your child through the transition and give yourself permission to want more sleep or more space.💛

I help families make this transition in a responsive, individualized way, whether you’re moving from bedsharing to a crib, floor bed, or another sleep setup.

DM me if you want support figuring out what that could look like for your family.

Tell me honestly: is this one of the hardest parts of being a mom or am I getting all emo for no reason 🥲

I hope this brings you the same sigh of relief and permission to make a change that it has brought to so many attachment parents I support. 💛

Practices like bed-sharing and nursing on demand are beautiful if they serve your family. But the misconception that keeps so many parents feeling stuck is believing that physical closeness equals secure attachment - and that needing space or sleep will ruin the connection.

In reality, secure attachment isn’t built on 24/7 physical access or self-sacrifice. It’s built on all the things that attachment parents often try so hard to avoid: separation & reunion, rupture, repair, and how you show up for your child during big feelings or after hard moments.

Your capacity, your mental health, and what your body can sustainably give matter. You don’t have to stay trapped in something that is depleting you just to protect a bond that is already much stronger and more resilient than you think. 🫶

I think we talk a lot about how to avoid messing up as parents, but not nearly enough about what happens after we do.

Because we’re human. We’re going to lose our patience, get triggered, say the wrong thing, or handle a moment differently than we wish we had.

What matters to me (and in attachment research!) is what comes next: taking responsibility, apologizing, and showing our kids that hard moments don’t have to be the end of connection.

What does the aftermath of a hard moment look like in your household? Do you find apologizing hard? 💛

Parenting is HARD. We live VERY differently than humans did for most of history, and we’re trying to figure out parenting while navigating schedules, work, money, social media, a million opinions, and so much pressure to get it “right.”

Like anything else- lactation, OT, chiro or counseling support, it’s ok to get sleep support. I help families balance real life needs and parent mental health with baby’s biological needs, to get sleep feeling better for everyone. No night weaning or stopping bed sharing required. Never changing anything around sleep - or anything in parenting - because it might involve tears is an impossible (and problematic) expectation to put on ourselves.

We are all eventually going to do something our little ones wouldn’t prefer, and sometimes that will lead to tears. It’s not a matter of if, it’s when.

So what if we spent less time trying to figure out how to prevent every tear, and more time learning how to feel less afraid of them?

What if instead of asking, “How do I make sure my baby doesn’t cry?” we asked, “How do I want to show up for my baby when something feels hard, or when there’s a change I need to make for family well being?”

Because tears in a loving home are not abuse or neglect. It doesn’t mean we’re doing something wrong.

Sometimes they simply mean something is changing, and they’re upset about it.

And we can be right there with them through it. 💛
