What if your symptoms are only part of the picture?

When you’re dealing with chronic pain, brain fog, memory concerns, or changes in your overall well-being, the answer may require looking beyond the symptoms.

Your brain health, sleep, metabolism, inflammation, and stress can all influence how you feel and function every day.

Your symptoms matter, but so does understanding the factors that may be contributing to them.

At Ascend Regenerative, we believe a more connected approach to healthcare starts with asking better questions and understanding the person behind the symptoms.

Your health is more than one symptom.

What health concern would you like to understand better? Share your thoughts in the comments.

Your brain doesn't work alone. And understanding that changes how we approach brain health.

We often think about cognitive health in terms of memory, focus, and the brain itself. But these functions are also influenced by what happens throughout the body.

Sleep supports memory and recovery. Blood sugar regulation affects metabolic health. Healthy circulation delivers oxygen and nutrients to the brain. Inflammation and chronic stress can also influence how the brain functions over time.

These systems are interconnected. When we look at brain health in isolation, we may overlook important factors that deserve attention.

As a physician, I believe a more complete approach to cognitive health starts with asking better questions about the whole person, not just the symptoms they experience.

Brain health is not only about responding when problems appear. It is also about understanding the factors that shape our health over time.

Save this post as a reminder that caring for your brain also means caring for the systems that support it.

"What if the way you think about your pain is part of how you experience it?"

Chronic pain doesn’t just affect the body. It can also take an emotional toll, leaving you feeling worn down, frustrated, and stuck in a cycle of negative thinking.

While the physical impact of an injury is real, the experience of living with ongoing pain can influence your mindset, mood, and overall well-being.

This is why we need to look beyond simply accepting pain as our new normal and start asking a different question:

“What steps can I take to improve my situation?”

Practicing "gratitude", becoming more aware of recurring negative thoughts, and learning to view challenges from a different perspective may help support emotional well-being while navigating chronic pain.

Of course, a positive mindset is not a cure for chronic pain, depression, or anxiety. These experiences are complex and deserve appropriate medical care and support.

But changing how we respond to challenges can be one meaningful part of a broader approach to healing.

"Your pain deserves attention. Your well-being deserves attention, too."

What does NMN actually do for your body?

NMN is gaining attention in the conversation around healthy aging, but understanding the science is essential.

NMN helps the body produce NAD+, a molecule involved in cellular energy production, DNA repair, and cellular function.

Research suggests that NMN supplementation may increase NAD+ levels. However, higher NAD+ levels do not automatically translate into longer life or proven anti-aging benefits.

As Dr. Fawad Mian explains, it is important to look beyond the headlines and understand what the research actually shows.

Healthy aging starts with informed decisions, realistic expectations, and evidence-based care.

Save this post for a quick reminder about the science behind NMN, and follow for more insights on brain health, cellular health, and healthy aging.

What if your chronic pain keeps returning because the underlying problem has never been addressed?

Many people living with chronic pain have tried physical therapy, injections, and even surgery. When the pain persists, it is understandable to feel frustrated and discouraged.

But one important question remains: Are we treating the source of the problem, or only managing the symptoms?

For example, spinal injections may help reduce inflammation around irritated nerves, but they do not necessarily correct underlying problems with spinal stability.

Similarly, radiofrequency ablation works by disrupting specific nerves that transmit pain signals. While it may provide relief for some patients, it does not necessarily address the structural factors contributing to their pain.

Repeated steroid injections also require careful consideration because, depending on the joint, dose, and frequency, they may carry risks to surrounding tissues, including cartilage.

Pain relief and addressing the underlying cause are not always the same thing.

Chronic pain deserves a closer look at the structures involved, joint stability, surrounding muscles, and the factors that may be contributing to persistent symptoms.

The goal should not simply be to silence the pain signal. It should be to understand why the pain continues and develop a treatment plan that addresses the patient's individual needs.

Every patient is different, and no single treatment is right for everyone. The first step is asking better questions about what may be driving the pain.

What if understanding your memory is the first step toward protecting your brain health? 🧠

Memory changes can be concerning, but they don't always point to Alzheimer's disease. Several factors may influence how we think, learn, and remember.

The first step is to look beyond the symptoms and understand what may be contributing to those changes.

That’s the purpose behind Reclaim Your Mind™: to help people better understand memory health, explore potential contributing factors, and make more informed decisions about their cognitive well-being.

Because understanding your brain is the beginning of caring for it.

Follow along for more educational insights from Dr. Fawad Mian as we introduce the mission behind Reclaim Your Mind™.

Memory problems don’t always mean Alzheimer’s. The real question is: What’s affecting your memory?

From people in their 20s struggling to remember things to older adults experiencing significant cognitive changes, "memory concerns can have many different contributing factors."

As a neurologist, I believe we need to look beyond the symptoms and start "peeling back the layers" to better understand what may be affecting brain health.

Sleep quality, chronic stress, hormonal changes, metabolic health, and other factors can influence memory and cognitive function. While some causes may be manageable, sudden or rapidly worsening memory changes require prompt medical evaluation.

This is one of the reasons I created Reclaim Your Mind™: to help people better understand memory health, recognize potential contributing factors, and become more informed about the steps they can take to support their cognitive well-being.

Because understanding your brain is an important step toward caring for it.

Follow along to learn more about Reclaim Your Mind™ and the science behind memory health.

A claw clip may seem like an unusual headache remedy, but there is an interesting neurological mechanism behind why some people report relief.

Pressure around the forehead can stimulate branches of the trigeminal nerve, creating additional sensory input that may temporarily change how the brain perceives pain.

But temporary relief is not the same as treatment.

The technique does not address the underlying neurological processes involved in migraine, and its effectiveness can vary from person to person.

The bigger lesson is that pain is influenced by the nervous system, not simply by where we feel it.

What if the problem isn’t where the pain is—but what’s actually causing it?

There was a time when I was dealing with persistent knee, foot, and ankle pain while being told by different specialists that the next step might be another procedure.

I had already failed a surgery, yet I was being presented with more invasive options: removing bone, altering tendons, and relying on pain medication if nothing else worked.

That experience changed the way I looked at chronic pain.

When pain persists despite treatment, it is worth stepping back and asking a different question:

Are we treating the source of the problem—or simply treating where the pain is felt?

Pain can involve multiple systems, including the nervous system, musculoskeletal system, inflammation, biomechanics, and the way the brain processes pain.

That’s why a comprehensive evaluation matters.

Not every painful condition needs another procedure. And before moving toward an irreversible intervention, patients deserve to understand what is actually driving their symptoms and what treatment options exist.

Your pain is real. The goal is to understand it—not simply learn to live with it.

What if the way you breathe while sleeping is affecting your heart and brain?

"Sleep apnea" is more than loud snoring or feeling tired the next day.

During sleep, the airway can repeatedly collapse or become blocked, causing breathing to stop or become restricted. This can lead to repeated drops in oxygen levels and frequent disruptions in sleep.

And the effects can extend far beyond poor sleep.

When oxygen levels fall and the body repeatedly responds to these breathing interruptions, heart rate and blood pressure can rise instead of getting the normal nighttime drop.

Over time, untreated sleep apnea has been associated with increased risk of serious health problems, including high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, and cognitive difficulties.

Your brain also needs quality sleep to support memory, attention, and cognitive function.

If you regularly snore loudly, wake up gasping, experience morning headaches, or feel excessively tired during the day, don't simply dismiss it as “bad sleep.”

"Sleep is part of your overall health—and breathing well at night matters."
