🧠CT vs MRI vs PET vs EEG — What’s the Difference?
Doctors have several ways to examine the brain, but these tests measure very different things.
🔵 CT Scan: Uses X-rays to create cross-sectional images. It’s commonly used when rapid imaging is needed, including evaluation of head injuries and certain types of bleeding.
🟢 MRI: Uses powerful magnetic fields and radio waves to produce highly detailed images of the brain and other soft tissues—without ionizing radiation.
🟣 PET Scan: Uses a small amount of radioactive tracer to visualize metabolic or molecular activity, helping doctors study how tissues are functioning.
🔴 EEG: Uses electrodes placed on the scalp to record the brain’s electrical activity. It is especially important in evaluating seizures and epilepsy.
Same brain. Four very different windows into what’s happening inside. 🧠🔬
