313 miles. One game ball. One powerful mission. 💙

Inspired by his wife Shannon’s breast cancer journey, Flushing firefighter Cody DeLorenzo is running from Lambeau Field to Ford Field to raise $50,000 for Henry Ford Health’s Game On Cancer program.

After Shannon was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer at just 30 years old, Cody wanted to turn their family’s experience into support for other patients and families navigating cancer. The run has been exhausting and often lonely, but Cody says it doesn't come close to the battle that inspired it.

"I want to do something tough, something challenging. Put myself in the shoes of those that are dealing with cancer," Cody shared.

Dr. David Kwon, co-chair of Game On Cancer, spoke with WXYZ-TV Channel 7 about how the program helps patients manage challenges beyond treatment, including everyday expenses that can add to the burden of a cancer diagnosis.

We're proud to share our nursing leaders Dr. Cheryl Bellamy and Dr. Ashlee Vance were inducted as 2026 Fellows of the American Academy of Nursing, one of the highest and most prestigious honors in the nursing profession! 👏

🔹 Dr. Bellamy, our Perinatal Clinical Nurse Specialist, has dedicated her career to advancing women’s and newborn health. Her work includes developing evidence-based labor support education for clinicians and leading national efforts to strengthen nursing practice and improve neonatal outcomes. She was also recently named a Fellow of the AWHONN - The Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses, becoming the first nurse from Henry Ford Health to receive this honor!

🔹Dr. Vance, an Assistant Scientist at our Center for Healthcare Improvement, focuses on improving neonatal outcomes by making families essential partners in care. Her work has helped shape nationally endorsed NICU guidance that recognizes parents as caregivers, not visitors. Her research also addresses critical needs such as parent mental health, parenting confidence and financial hardship, while her leadership helps prepare the next generation of nurse-scientists.

From advancing research and clinical practice to shaping the future of nursing, Dr. Bellamy and Dr. Vance exemplify the impact nurses have on patients, families and the profession. Congratulations to both on these well-deserved honors!
