October is Pregnancy & Infant Loss Awareness Month.
For the babies we never got to hold, the babies we held for far too little time, and the babies we will spend a lifetime loving.
This month holds a special place in my heart. And I know that heartbreak personally. I’ve experienced three miscarriages of my own. Three little lives that were loved from the moment I knew they existed. Three babies I dreamed about, prayed for, and imagined a future with.
One thing pregnancy loss has taught me is that you don’t have to hold a baby in your arms to carry them in your heart forever. There is a unique kind of grief that comes with losing a baby you never got the chance to know. You grieve the little person you loved, the future you imagined, and all the moments you’ll never get to experience together. And sometimes, the world moves on while you’re still learning how to carry that grief.
I’ve also learned that faith and grief can coexist. That you can trust in God’s goodness while still having questions. That you can be grateful for the children in your arms while deeply missing the ones who aren’t. And that joy in a pregnancy that follows loss doesn’t erase the love you have for the babies who came before.
To the mama who has experienced miscarriage, stillbirth, or infant loss, I want you to know something.
Your baby mattered.
Your baby is loved.
Your baby will always be a part of your story.
Whether your loss was recent or many years ago, whether you have other children or are still waiting for the day you get to bring a baby home, you deserve to have your grief acknowledged and your baby’s life remembered. We recognize that every pregnancy carries a story, every baby matters, and every mother deserves to be met with compassion, tenderness, and love.
This month, we remember our babies that left us too soon and the mothers and fathers who will love them for a lifetime.
The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. Psalm 34:18
For every baby carried in our hearts instead of our arms, we remember you. 🤍
