The Living Healthy Whipped Body Butters: Launch Day

27 days ago, we started this menopause education journey together. Today, I’m sharing something I made for all of us.

I created these whipped body butters because I was navigating menopause skin changes and couldn’t find what I needed. Too heavy. Too light. Ingredients I didn’t recognize. Nothing designed for menopause skin.

So I made something.

Two scents:

Lavender
Turmeric

Both contain:

Shea butter and mango butter
Turmeric and jojoba oil
Ginger and lavender essential oils
Lavender buds

What’s not included:
No niacinamide, no rosehip, no synthetic fragrance, no parabens.

How to use:
Apply to slightly damp skin. Use on your body, and on neck and décolletage if you like. A small amount goes a long way.

Small batch, by design:
This is 100 units total. Quality matters more than scale.

The waitlist:
Joining is free. The deadline is Thanksgiving Day, November 27. Production begins after the waitlist closes.

Skincare is one piece of whole-body menopause care. It supports your skin barrier while your body shifts. It doesn’t replace the nutrition, movement, and stress care we’ve covered all month.

Community Coming: Something Bigger Than Daily Videos

For 28 days, we’ve walked through menopause education together. You’ve learned about your body. You’ve pushed back on myths. And you’ve found other women doing the same thing, in the comments, on social media, and in shared stories.

That’s community. And it’s what I’m building next.

What I’m creating:
A space for women who want more than daily videos:

Questions answered without judgment
Shared experiences from women walking the same path
Expert support from me
Accountability and encouragement
Support that honors Black women’s bodies and culture

Tomorrow, October 29:
I’m sharing the full details. You’ll know everything then.

Want to be part of it?
Comment “I’m in” below. It helps me know who’s interested as I build this out.

You won’t be alone in menopause anymore.

Joint Pain & Stiffness During Menopause: What Helps

If your knees ache, your hips feel tight, or your hands look and feel puffier, you’re not imagining it. Menopause can change how your joints feel.

Why joints change:
Estrogen has anti-inflammatory effects. When it drops, your body can respond more strongly to inflammatory triggers, and joints often notice first.

Joints that often hurt:

Knees: body weight plus inflammation
Hips: deep joints and tight hip flexors from sitting
Hands and wrists: smaller joints, more noticeable swelling
Neck and shoulders: stress and posture
Lower back: core changes and hip tightness

Anti-inflammatory eating:

Omega-3 foods: salmon, mackerel, walnuts, flax, chia
Turmeric, ginger, and leafy greens
Berries and bone broth
Limit processed foods, excess sugar, and refined oils

Movement that helps:

Low-impact cardio: swimming, cycling, elliptical
Gentle stretching, held without bouncing
Light strength training with good form
Heat before movement, ice after if joints flare
Rest days

When to see a provider:
Sharp, localized pain that doesn’t improve, significant swelling, or pain that limits daily life needs medical evaluation. Other conditions should be ruled out.

GLP-1s During Menopause: What You Need to Know

GLP-1 medications are everywhere right now. If you’re a woman in menopause, you may be wondering whether they belong in your plan.

Here’s the context most conversations skip.

What menopause already changes:

Insulin sensitivity declines as estrogen drops
Appetite-regulating hormones shift
Fat distribution moves toward more visceral fat
Metabolism can change even when your habits don’t

What the research doesn’t tell us yet:
Much of GLP-1 research wasn’t designed specifically for menopausal women. Dosing, side effects, and nutritional needs may differ for your body, and we don’t have strong data on every question.

What to discuss with your doctor:

Your full health history, including metabolic and cardiovascular risk
How your response, nutrition, and muscle mass will be monitored
Which side effects to watch for, and when to call
Whether a GLP-1 fits your goals, or whether other options should come first

What I’d like you to remember:
You’re not considering a GLP-1 because you’re undisciplined. You’re considering it because your body is going through a major hormonal transition. You deserve care that takes that into account.

Embodied Care in Menopause: A Week 3 Reflection

As an Integrative and Functional Dietitian, I see menopause as something women live in their bodies every day. Week 3 of our series focused on that embodied experience.

We covered movement, breathwork, sexuality and intimacy, bone health, thinning hair, and gut health. Each topic connects to a clinical concern that women often raise and too rarely get time to discuss.

The approach across all six is consistent: understand what’s changing, use practical tools that match the body’s current needs, and seek medical evaluation when symptoms are persistent or concerning.

Week 3 Complete: Embodied Menopause

You made it through Week 3. You didn’t just learn about menopause. You moved through it, breathed through it, and cared for your body in it.

This week, we covered:

Movement: Low-impact, strength-building, joyful movement
Breathwork: A tool that’s always available for your nervous system
Sexuality & intimacy: Your menopausal body is still worthy of pleasure
Bone health: Prevention now matters, with strength training and nutrient support
Hair: Thinning is manageable with gentle scalp care and lower-tension styles
Gut health: Listen to your digestion and feed it what it needs

The theme:
Week 1 was about understanding. Week 2 was about knowledge. Week 3 was about embodiment. You can’t intellectualize menopause. You have to live it.

Keep these practices:
Move in ways that feel good. Breathe when you need to regulate. Protect your bones. Care for your hair. Listen to your gut. These are your menopause practice.

Coming up:
Week 4 brings lifestyle integration and support. Something I’m building for January is also coming together. More details soon.

Hair Thinning During Menopause: What’s Happening & What Helps

If your hair is thinning, you’re not imagining it, and you’re not alone. Many women notice changes in their hair during menopause, and it can feel significant.

What can contribute:

Hormone shifts. Estrogen helps keep hair in its growth phase, so changes can shorten that phase.
Androgens becoming more prominent in relative terms, which can affect follicles.
Nutrition gaps in protein, iron, B vitamins, or zinc.
Inflammation and stress.

Why it can feel more visible for Black women:
Natural hair texture and styling practices can make thinning more noticeable, especially along the edges and parts. Gentle styling matters.

What helps:

Protein at every meal. Hair is made of protein.
Iron, zinc, and B vitamins. Get iron levels checked if you’re concerned.
Omega-3s and antioxidants. Fatty fish, walnuts, flax, citrus, and berries.
Scalp care. Gentle massage, a gentle cleanser, and deep conditioning.
Lower tension. Loose protective styles beat tight braids and buns.
Less heat. Your hair may be more fragile right now.

When to see a doctor:
If hair loss is sudden, severe, or patchy, see a dermatologist. Most menopause-related thinning is gradual and diffuse.

Bone Health During Menopause: Prevention Starts Now

Your bones are living tissue, and they respond to what you do now.

Estrogen helps slow bone loss. When estrogen drops in menopause, bone loss can accelerate. Many women don’t know this until a bone density test or a fracture shows it.

Black women and bone health:
Black women are less likely to be screened and diagnosed with osteoporosis. Standard testing and assumptions about bone strength can mean risk goes unnoticed. That’s a healthcare gap, and you can advocate around it.

How to protect your bones:

Strength training 2-3x per week. Start with bodyweight or light weights. Focus on good form.
Weight-bearing movement. Walking, dancing, and hiking all work bone against gravity.
Calcium from food first. Leafy greens, fortified plant milk, fish with bones, almonds, and seeds.
Vitamin D and magnesium. Both support calcium use. Food first, supplements when needed.
Enough protein. Bone needs protein to rebuild.
Limit inflammatory foods and alcohol. Both can increase bone loss.

Ask your doctor:
“Should I get a DEXA scan?” “What are my risk factors?” “Can you refer me to an osteoporosis specialist if needed?”

Don’t wait for a fracture to ask. Ask your doctor whether a bone density test is right for you, and tell me in the comments if you’ve had one.
