At Holistic & Hormonal, we believe women deserve compassionate, personalized care through every stage of life. From family planning to pregnancy, postpartum, perimenopause, menopause, and beyond, women deserve to feel heard, supported, and empowered in their health.

That’s why we’re so excited to celebrate the opening of Birth Haven in Salem, NH! 💗 Birth Haven is about more than creating a place to give birth. It’s about building a community where midwifery-led care, education, and support are accessible to women and families throughout their lives.

Through Haven Circle, our nonprofit partner, we’re working to make that vision a reality by expanding access to midwifery care, perinatal education, and family support.

In case you missed the event we posted yesterday, we’re opening our doors for a community first look Open House on November 7 from 10 AM–5 PM, and we’d love to welcome you into the space we’ve been creating.

If you’re expecting, planning for a future pregnancy, a birth worker, wellness professional, or simply someone who supports more options for families, come by to tour the center, meet our team, ask questions, connect with others, and spend some time with us.

We’ll have food, a raffle, tours, conversation, and opportunities for Q&A with our midwives throughout the day.

We want this to be more than a place people come to give birth. Birth Haven is being created as a place for connection, support, education, and community.

Dr. Whitney Esesser provides exceptional care. I came to her with several health concerns, and she helped identify the underlying issues and develop an effective treatment plan. The improvement in how I feel has been remarkable.I especially value her thoroughness and attention to detail. When I asked about a blood test result after hearing something discussed on a podcast, she explained that she was already tracking the number and reassured me that there was no cause for concern. Feeling especially grateful today.

There has been so much happening behind the scenes at Birth Haven lately, and some days we have to stop and really take in how far we have come in just a couple of short months. This has taken a lot of work, a lot of faith, and a whole lot of heart from all of us.

We are incredibly thankful for every family, friend, colleague, and community member who has encouraged us, shared our posts, offered help, or simply believed in what we are building. And we really are going to need our community to continue to step up to help this place thrive long-term.

We have some pretty big news that we are hoping to share next week.

For today, just feeling grateful for this team, this space, and everything that is beginning to come together. ❤️

Meet Dr. Whitney Elsesser, DNP, CNM, Medical Director and Administrator of Birth Haven, and one of our three co-owners.

Whitney’s path to Birth Haven actually started long before Birth Haven even existed.

Khadijah met Whitney when she was still working labor and delivery in the hospital, and pretty quickly realized that the way Whitney thought about birth was much more aligned with out-of-hospital care than the hospital world she was working in. Whitney mentioned also that she had a goal to someday open a birth center in NH

After some conversations about birth, autonomy, physiology, and what maternity care could look like, Khadijah finally told her:

“Whitney, your philosophy aligns with out-of-hospital birth. Why not come back to supporting normal physiological birth?”

And it wasn’t long before she did.

Whitney is a Certified Nurse Midwife and Doctor of Nursing Practice, and she brings such a valuable mix of strong clinical experience and a real respect for normal physiological birth, informed choice, individualized care, and women having a true voice in their own care.

She is also the founder of Holistic & Hormonal where her work goes far beyond pregnancy and birth. She has a special interest in hormones, fertility, cycle health, preconception care, and holistic women’s health, with a strong focus on looking for root causes instead of just managing symptoms.

At Birth Haven, Whitney oversees much of the clinical operations side of the center while also caring directly for the women and families we serve.

One of the things that brought us together in the first place was a shared belief that birth is most often a normal physiological process, women deserve to be listened to, and excellent clinical care should never require someone to give up their autonomy.

Birth Haven really grew out of conversations like those early ones, talking about what maternity care could look like if strong clinical knowledge, respect for physiology, and genuine respect for women all existed in the same space.

Now we get to build exactly that.
