This week, I was honored to attend the inaugural JFK Medical Center Nursing Research Symposium. As the only guest from outside the medical center, I was introduced as a community and cultural gatekeeper, connected with diverse senior-housing communities.
The symposium was produced by its keynote speaker, Dr. Ulanda Marcus-Aiyeku, a nurse scientist whose expertise and commitment to research I deeply respect. Through Integrity Recovery Connected I’ve had the privilege of working closely with Dr. Marcus-Aiyeku on research and pilot studies focused on supporting vulnerable communities.
Being in a room with nurses and leaders dedicated to advancing research—and hearing about the milestones and achievements being celebrated—was both inspiring and humbling. It reminded me that meaningful progress happens when people bring different perspectives to the table.
I’m grateful to contribute through the lens of caregiver advocacy and to help Integrity Recovery Connected serve as a trusted, welcoming space—a bridge over troubled waters, and a partner in building better solutions for the communities we serve.
