Vascular & Interventional Radiologist | Founder & Medical Director, 360 Vascular Institute

Sharing insights on arterial disease, venous disease, embolization therapies, innovation, and compassionate physician led care. A proud Ohio native, I bring over a decade of experience from the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania where I served as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Radiology & Surgery and was the Founder and Director of the nationally recognized DVT and Complex Venous Disease Program. At 360 Vascular Institute, we deliver advanced, minimally invasive vascular care for conditions such as:
• Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD)
• Critical Limb Ischemia (CLI)
• Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)
• Pelvic Venous Disorders
• Vascular Compression Syndromes

Our goal is simple: prevent amputations, restore mobility, and provide world-class care in a patient-centered outpatient setting.

I'm truly honored to be recognized as one of Columbus' Most Trusted Physicians of 2026, an initiative of Offcall and the Columbus Medical Association. What makes this especially meaningful is that the recognition comes from nominations by fellow physicians.

After spending my entire career in academic medicine, I took a leap of faith and moved back to my home state of Ohio to start 360 Vascular Institute. I wasn't sure what to expect when starting an independent practice, but what I never anticipated was how quickly patients from across the country and around the world would find us.

What started as a vision for a different kind of practice has grown into a destination for patients seeking a more personalized approach to vascular care.

Trust in medicine is earned one patient at a time. But that trust isn't earned by me alone. I'm incredibly grateful to my team at 360 Vascular Institute, whose dedication, compassion, and attention to detail make the care we provide possible. We're not perfect, but we're always striving to do better, and I'm grateful to the patients who recognize and appreciate what we're trying to build.

Thank you to my physician colleagues for this recognition, to my patients for trusting us with their care, and to everyone who has supported us along the way!

BREAKING NEWS!

Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts has reportedly now been diagnosed with DVT and blood clots in both lungs (bilateral pulmonary emboli) following his initial diagnosis of superficial thrombophlebitis.

Last week, I posted about why superficial blood clots shouldn't be taken lightly. A few people felt I was making too big a deal out of superficial thrombophlebitis.

Unfortunately, this latest news highlights why these clots shouldn't be dismissed.

Not every superficial clot is dangerous, and not everyone needs blood thinners. However, there are specific criteria we use to determine who may benefit from anticoagulation, including the clot's location, extent, proximity to the deep veins, and individual risk factors.

This is why an ultrasound is so important.

We don't know whether Hurts' superficial clot actually extended into his deep veins, but his situation reinforces an important point:

Not every superficial clot needs blood thinners, but every suspected superficial clot deserves appropriate evaluation.

Wishing Jalen Hurts a full recovery.

Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts' reported superficial blood clot is an important reminder that not all superficial blood clots are harmless.

Many people don't realize that the superficial veins just beneath our skin are directly connected to the deep veins in our legs, particularly in the groin and behind the knee.

Why does this matter?

A clot that starts in a superficial vein can sometimes extend into the deep venous system, causing a deep vein thrombosis (DVT), which can potentially lead to a life-threatening pulmonary embolism.

This is why ultrasound is so important. The location and extent of a clot, particularly its proximity to the deep veins, can significantly influence treatment.

But there's another important connection that often gets overlooked: Chronic venous insufficiency (CVI).

Millions of people live with chronic venous disease without realizing it. Symptoms can include:

- Leg heaviness, aching, or swelling
- Varicose veins
- Nighttime leg cramps or restless legs
- Numbness, tingling, or burning sensations in the legs or feet
- Skin discoloration, particularly around the ankles
- Poor wound healing or ulcers on the lower legs

When the valves in our veins don't work properly, blood can pool in the legs, causing increased venous pressure and sluggish blood flow. Chronic venous disease, particularly varicose veins, is associated with an increased risk of superficial thrombophlebitis and DVT.

Not everyone with CVI will develop a blood clot, and symptoms such as neuropathy and restless legs can have many other causes. However, it's an important reminder that chronic leg symptoms and varicose veins shouldn't be dismissed as simply cosmetic concerns.

My message: Don't dismiss superficial blood clots, and don't ignore chronic leg symptoms. What starts in the superficial veins can sometimes become a much more serious problem.

Wishing Jalen Hurts a safe and complete recovery.

When I left academic medicine and started 360 Vascular Institute, I wanted to build something different.

My goal was to bring the expertise and technology of a major academic medical center into a smaller, physician-led practice where we could spend time with patients, educate them about their disease, and provide truly personalized vascular care.

Dublin Daily recently took an interest in what we're building right here in Dublin, particularly our office-based cath lab and the advanced, minimally invasive procedures we're able to perform without surgical incisions.

I'm incredibly proud of how far our small team has come and grateful to the patients who have trusted us with their care.

Thank you to Nick Brod and Dublin Daily for sharing our story.

Where do patients go when they want reliable information about a vascular condition?

For years, I’ve written articles to help patients better understand vascular disease—especially conditions that can be confusing, frequently misunderstood, or difficult to find good information about online.

Today, I’m excited to bring all of that work together with the launch of the 360 Vascular Institute Patient Education Library.

This isn’t meant to be another medical blog. It’s a searchable resource where patients can look up a condition, symptom, or treatment and find clear, practical information that I’ve personally written based on the questions I hear from patients every day.

The library includes years of education on DVT, post-thrombotic syndrome, May Thurner syndrome, pelvic venous disease, chronic venous insufficiency, PAD, lymphedema, and many other vascular conditions—and it will continue to grow.

I’ve always believed that patients make better decisions when they understand what is happening in their bodies and why a treatment is—or sometimes isn’t—recommended.

My hope is that the 360 Vascular Institute Patient Education Library becomes a trusted place for patients and families looking for answers about vascular health.

Take a look, search a topic, and let me know what you think. And if there’s a vascular topic or question you’d like me to write about next, leave a suggestion in the comments.

🌎 Expanding Access to 360 Vascular Care

I’m excited to share that I am now licensed to provide telehealth consultations in 14 states, expanding access to the specialized vascular care we provide at 360 Vascular Institute.

Telehealth allows me to personally review a patient’s history and imaging, provide a second opinion, discuss treatment options, and determine whether traveling to Ohio makes sense. It also gives us the opportunity to educate patients about their vascular condition—something we take great pride in. We believe better understanding leads to better decisions and better outcomes.

Importantly, telehealth does not replace an in-person physician evaluation. Every patient who travels to 360 Vascular for treatment is evaluated by me in our office before any procedure.

Telehealth improves access—it is not a shortcut to treatment.

Our goal is simple: high-quality, cost-effective, physician-led vascular care, regardless of geography.

One of the things I have always enjoyed most about medicine is teaching and mentoring the next generation of physicians.

The 360 Vascular Institute Clinical Scholars Program was created to give exceptional pre-medical students something beyond traditional shadowing or scribing: meaningful patient care experience, direct physician mentorship, procedural exposure, research opportunities, and an understanding of how medicine actually works outside the classroom.

Our inaugural Clinical Scholar, Helen, has been exceptional, and watching how much she has grown and learned has reinforced my belief in this program.

We are now accepting applications for our next Clinical Scholar.

Beyond shadowing. Beyond scribing.

Details and application information are listed below. See QR code.

Exploring London one step at a time! 👣🇬🇧

Walking is one of the simplest things you can do for vascular health. It can improve walking ability in PAD and helps activate the calf muscle pump in venous disease. (Even better with compression stockings 😉)

You don’t need 20,000 steps a day. Every step counts. Just keep moving.

“Teamwork makes the dream work” is something we say often at 360 Vascular Institute.

Visiting the Harry Potter studios in London this week was an incredible look at what happened behind the scenes. We all see the finished films, but it took hundreds of artists, designers, builders, technicians, actors, and others working together to create that magic.

It reminded me a lot of healthcare.

Patients often see the physician, but great care takes an entire team working toward the same goal.

One of the things I value most about building 360 Vascular Institute is having the opportunity to build that team, shape our culture, and create the kind of patient experience I believe healthcare should provide.

I'm incredibly grateful for the team we've built and what each person contributes every day.

That may be where the real magic happens. ⚡️

Enjoying some much-needed family time in London this week! 🇬🇧

We started our trip with seeing the musical Matilda and have been enjoying the chance to slow down, explore, and spend time together.

Even while away, I still check in with my team daily and stay connected with what is happening with my patients. Building 360 Vascular Institute into a destination for vascular care has been a labor of love...and one of the most challenging things I have ever done.

Stepping away gives me something that's hard to find during a busy week: time to think about what we're doing well, what we can do better, and how we can continue to improve the experience for our patients.

Sometimes stepping away gives you the perspective to come back better. 🇬🇧
