OCD is not a personality trait. It’s not just being organized. And it’s not something you can simply turn off by telling yourself to stop thinking about it.

OCD can involve intrusive, unwanted thoughts that create intense distress, followed by compulsions or mental rituals that someone feels driven to perform to find relief.

And here’s something many people don’t realize: not all compulsions are visible.

OCD can look like repeatedly checking, asking for reassurance, mentally reviewing conversations, avoiding situations that trigger fear, or trying to prove to yourself that an unwanted thought doesn’t mean something terrible about you.

It can even target the things you care about most, making the thoughts feel especially frightening and personal.

OCD is treatable, and you don’t have to wait until it takes over your life to seek support.

This OCD Awareness Week, let’s move beyond the stereotypes and make room for more informed, compassionate conversations about what OCD really looks like.

Yeahhh… so if you could like.. maybe not.. that’d be great! 😄

We see you mama..

The one in the newborn trenches, the new mom, the third time around mom, the mom who’s 6 months out and feels like like this should be getting better by now.

We see you.

If you’re navigating PPD/PPA and feel like you need a little extra help or support, we’ve got you.

We know all about that and we can’t wait to help you embrace this next chapter. Because PPD/PPA isn’t a bad thing… but you could definitely be feeling better than you do now 🫶🏼

“What if I’m thinking about it because I secretly want to do it?”

That question can feel terrifying when you’re living with OCD.

An intrusive thought can be so disturbing, so vivid, or so completely against who you are that your brain starts searching for an explanation:

Why did I think that?
What does it say about me?
What if the fact that I’m thinking about it means I actually want it?

But having an intrusive thought doesn’t make it a desire, intention, plan, or reflection of who you are.

And the more you try to prove to yourself that you would never do it, analyze why you had the thought, check how you feel about it, or seek reassurance that you’re a “good person,” the more OCD can pull you into the cycle.

Therapy can help you learn how to respond differently.

Not by making sure you never have another intrusive thought. Not by giving you 100% certainty. But by helping you build the tools to recognize OCD, tolerate the uncertainty, and stop giving those thoughts the power to run the show.

If you’re in that place right now, please keep going.
Keep showing up to therapy.
Keep practicing the tools.
You are not your intrusive thoughts.
