Three things we need to be properly cueing the core for pressure management and creating stability:

1. Controlling the pelvis
2. Breathing
3. Engaging the deep core

Most people stop at tuck your pelvis or draw your belly button to spine, and then we see coning, breath holding or even pain and hip popping.

When I teach core, I SLOW DOWN and talk through each step, so you can put yourself in the correct position, and then breathe with coordinating engagement of the deep core.

This provides proper pressure management and stability which builds more strength and endurance while also not cranking on the lower back or the hips.

If this feels hard to do with your legs in the air, start with them on the ground and adding these steps together of pelvic position, breathing, then exhaling and engaging.

Then the next addition is to lift the legs and breathe with engaging on the exhale.

Final step is to add the leg extension or movement with a paired exhale.

What questions do you have about core exercises and proper pressure management?

Just in case p*eing teaches your bladder to send signals earlier so you empty earlier and more frequently and then your bladder never gets to be stretched and it creates a cycle! 🔄

Don’t let your bladder be your boss - only p*e when you get the urge to p*e!

Exceptions are a long car or airplane ride with no access to the bathroom for a while😅 but not just to go to the grocery store 🤓😉

I’ve gone back-and-forth about sharing this.

Not because I’m ashamed of my story, but because it’s personal.

This is before me and after getting answers about what’s happening in my pelvis.

For a long time, I was just told that this was normal and I should push through the pain. And then I just got really good at functioning through things that were anything but normal.

The MRI has been a turning point for me of getting all the puzzle pieces together and understanding what’s happening in my body, but long before this, it changed the way that I’ve practiced.

Because I know what it’s like to be the person sitting across from a medical provider thinking: something is wrong. I just need someone to listen.

That is why I’m so passionate about pelvic health.

If you are experiencing pelvic pain, painful periods, pain with s*x, bladder or bowel issues, pressure or something doesn’t feel right - you deserve to be heard.

You aren’t being dramatic.
You are not weak.
You don’t have to accept that your pain is normal.

If you’ve ever felt dismissed when you knew something wasn’t right, you’re not alone.

MYTH MONDAY: FITNESS 🦄🧟🧞

YOU SHOULDN’T LIFT IF YOU HAVE PELVIC FLOOR SYMPTOMS. 😑👎🚫

Actually - lifting weights is great for you and we don’t want to slap a one size fits all on everyone!

Leaking with strength training DOES NOT mean you STOP strength training. It means we figure out why and address that issue while modifying or using different strategies to move and not leak!

Pain with strength training DOES NOT mean you STOP strength training. Pain is a warning signal in our body - it’s important to listen too AND address but we create a plan together so you can move in other ways!

Pressure with exercise DOES NOT mean we STOP exercising. It means we need to figure out why it’s happening and giving you the right tools to support staying active.

What other myths should we bust?
