Most players stop lifting in October. In January they wonder where the legs went.

It all comes down to the same thing. What you built over the summer is only worth whatever’s left of it in February.

The schedule fills up, the weight room is the first thing to go, and nothing bad happens right away. That’s the trap. By the back half of the season they’re a step slow and something’s always sore.

Train to perform. Train to stay available. Train through the season.

DM me “IN-SEASON” and I’ll build it around your games.

Three athletes. Three different movements. Same ten minutes at the start of every session.

This is active mobility. Moving through specific positions under control teaches the body it can actually use it - in a stride, in a crossover, in a battle along the wall.

Hips and ankles are where we start with almost everyone. When those two stop moving well, the stride shortens, and something further up the chain ends up paying for it.

It’s most often the part that gets skipped and no one wants to do. It’s the part that keeps you on the ice.

Every October I have the same conversation.

The hockey season starts, the schedule fills up, and off-ice training is the first thing to go - I get it … “there’s no time”.

Then in the middle / end of the season I get the text. Athlete looks slow, less powerful, tweaked groin….and the question is: why?

The players who walk away from the off-ice training in October are walking away from the thing that was holding them together.

Two or three high quality and intentful training sessions a week. Built around practices and games, not piled on top of them….is enough to keep almost everything an athlete built over the off-season.

Four things to keep doing, four to stop. Swipe.

DM “IN-SEASON” and we will build it around your schedule.

High performance is built in the details.

Developing the strength, power, movement quality and physical resilience required to perform at the highest level.

Individualized training. Purposeful progressions. Every detail with a reason.

Prepare with intent. Perform when it matters.

The facility matters. The people inside it matter more.

At Empowers, development has never been about simply providing a place to train. It’s about creating an environment where athletes are coached, challenged, educated and surrounded by people invested in their development.

The conversations between sets. The eyes on every rep. The adjustments made in real time. The relationships built over months and years. And the collaboration between coaches and athletes at different stages of their careers.

Those are the things that are difficult to quantify, but ultimately create tremendous value.

We’ve built Empowers to bring together high-level coaching, performance science, recovery and a network developed through years in elite sport - all under one roof.

The equipment is a resource. The facility is the environment. The coaching and relationships are the difference.

Individualized. Intentional. Progressive.

Every athlete has different needs — and every phase of the off-season should have a purpose.

Assess where they are. Build the plan. Coach the details. Progress the athlete.

More than programming.

Having eyes on the athlete every day allows us to assess how they move, understand how they’re responding, and make adjustments based on what the athlete needs in that moment.

Performance is at its best when coaches, therapists, and athletes are communicating, collaborating, and working toward the same objective.

For athletes balancing high-intensity skating and resistance training, recovery is a key driver of performance adaptation. Strength training increases mechanical load and neuromuscular fatigue, while targeted mobility work helps restore range of motion and optimize movement quality.

Incorporating PNF stretching (alternating contraction and relaxation) can further enhance flexibility by improving neuromuscular control and increasing stretch tolerance. For performance, this supports better force production, joint stability, and overall movement efficiency.
