While it can be tempting to quickly do whatever it takes, no matter the pain in your quest to rid yourself of Lyme and co-infections, it’s often unnecessary and unhelpful.

Every Lyme patient needs a protocol that not only gets rid of the bacteria but supports their body’s needs along the way, making it tolerable and doable for them to keep going.

The best protocol is the one your body can tolerate.

Dr. Warren's views on getting Herxheimer reactions while on Lyme and co-infection protocols:

"Over the years, I’ve found that pushing you faster than your body will go does not speed up the process. It just creates more havoc, adds misery, and often makes people quit the protocol altogether. You want to go as fast as your body will let you. If you're Herxing, you're getting a response, but you want to find the balance between supporting your body and killing the bacteria."

The core components of functional nutrition include following these guidelines:

🔹Assessing health history, current conditions, environmental exposures, stress levels, current diet, and the amount of regular physical activity
🔹Utilizing various tests based on functional standards to discover and address nutritional deficiencies, imbalances, allergies, sensitivities, and more
🔹Developing a personalized diet plan based on the individual’s health status, goals, and test results
🔹Incorporating whole, unprocessed foods that are rich in phytonutrients

Functional nutrition is a holistic approach focused on food and nutrition that also incorporates lifestyle factors, genetics, underlying conditions, and other factors to help identify the root causes of health issues. Following this approach, we focus on eating a diet full of organic (when possible), high-quality, nutrient-dense, whole foods rich in phytonutrients and discourage eating highly processed, high-sugar foods.

This more personalized and holistic approach can help identify the root causes of health issues by considering an individual’s genetics, lifestyle, nutrient status, and environment. Everyone has unique needs, problems, and habits, which is why this “one-size-fits-one” approach is so important and effective.

It’s extremely common for those with Lyme to experience arthritis.

According to Dr. Daniel Cameron, 60% of people with untreated Lyme disease may have arthritis and severe joint pain and swelling, and 40% of Lyme patients end up with long-term health problems.

If you’re experiencing signs of arthritis and a rheumatologist can’t show you a positive test for lupus or rheumatoid arthritis, getting checked for different species of Lyme bacteria and co-infections is imperative.

Many symptoms of Lyme overlap with the symptoms of autoimmune conditions. However, Lyme can also make preexisting autoimmune conditions worse or encourage your body to develop new autoimmune conditions thanks to its ongoing, massive attack on the immune system.

It’s common for doctors to assume patients are suffering from an autoimmune condition when they are actually suffering from Lyme. And if the patient has an autoimmune condition, it’s common for a Lyme infection to be missed.

Some of the most common autoimmune diseases that relate to Lyme symptoms include:

🟢 Rheumatoid arthritis
🟢 Lupus/SLE
🟢 Multiple sclerosis
🟢 Inflammatory bowel disease
🟢 Celiac disease
🟢 Sjogren’s syndrome
🟢 Hashimoto’s disease (affecting the thyroid gland)
🟢 Ulcerative colitis

When doctors run tests to see if their assumptions are correct, they’re often extremely perplexed if the tests come back negative.

While Lyme disease is not an autoimmune disease, it can sometimes be hard to distinguish between them. Learn how they’re related.
